Calling all job seekers!

Hundreds of jobs will be up for grabs when the Queens Borough President’s sixth recruitment fair is held next week.

The event, which will take place via the video-conferencing application Zoom, is being held on Aug. 5 at 2:00 p.m. and out-of-work residents will get a chance to connect with recruiters and employers from various industries.

The event will be hosted by Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee and positions in healthcare, transportation, retail, security and community services will be on offer. It will be the sixth fair organized by the borough president and is expected to last for about 90 minutes.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear presentations from industry leaders followed by an interactive Q & A session.

There are positions available with the Child Center of New York, Community Capacity Development and the Council for Airport Opportunity, according to the borough president’s office.

Workers are also needed at LIFE Camp, Inc., Mercy Home, MetroPlus Health Plan, New York Life, NYC Health + Hospitals, Queens Centers for Progress, Rock Safe Streets, WATCH GUARD 24/7, Workforce1 and the Young Adult Institute.

The event is part of series that has been held every three weeks during the pandemic to help laid-off residents find a job. The first event was held on May 13.

The latest fair comes at a time when unemployment in the borough remains high despite some government restrictions being lifted.

The unemployment rate for Queens rose to 21.8 percent in June, according to the Queens Borough President’s Office.

Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee said it is critical that job seekers are connected with vacant positions as the economy restarts.

“We are pleased to have new partners join our returning employers in answering questions live about a wide variety of jobs hiring now.”

Job seekers who want to participate are asked to register by Aug. 4 by clicking on this link.

A live stream of the Jobs Recruitment Fair will be available to watch here.

Vote trump 2020

Democrats redistributed pension funds and now want to be bailed out from all these years of mismanagement. I rather give out free money and help out the economy than put it in the hands of socialists.

and you’re comparing him to someone else.

That’s THE definition of socialism. You’re against handouts like that right?

The economy is the worst it’s ever been. Largest 3-month drop in our nation’s history. And giving out free money will fix it? lol

Redistributing wealth, like Trump, is the definition of socialism

Trump redistributed taxpayer wealth to give money for free. The democrats ensured the boomers had a pension.

Why doesn’t the billionaire care about his pension? hmmm

There is an increase of people dogging through garbage and recycling bags looking for bottles and cans for the 5 cent refund. Its truly sad. One lady was at the corner with 3 large bags of cans and bottles and a brand new looking sports car pulled up and she put them in the trunk and then went and sat in the passenger seat. I guess they needed extra gas money.

Lawmakers secure federal funding to combat flooding in Queens after impact of Hurricane Ida and other storms

U.S. Congresswomen Grace Meng and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, announced on Jan. 7 that President Joe Biden has signed their legislation into law to address severe flooding in Queens.

The measure aims to mitigate future disasters like those caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in September 2021, which inundated the borough with record-shattering rainfall.

Op-ed | New York’s ground lease co-ops: Our families can’t wait any longer

Jan. 14, 2025 By Michael Tang

Last December brought a long-awaited victory for New York City. Our City Council adopted the historic City of Yes housing plan, paving the way for more than 80,000 new homes by 2040 with the promise of affordability. As a longtime resident of Flushing, Queens, I naturally welcomed the news – it’s a much-needed reprieve for New Yorkers as housing costs continue to soar in the midst of an unparalleled housing crisis. But entering 2025 on the heels of this win, we residents at  Murray Hill Cooperative remain at risk — our lives are virtually unchanged because we belong to the last class of unprotected “tenants” as ground lease co-op residents. Without legislative action, more than 25,000 New Yorkers face the threat of losing their homes — homes that we own — to landowners seeking to raise our ground rent to astronomical rates.
