(NYPD and Google Maps)

July 22, 2020 By Michael Dorgan

Police are searching for a number of suspects following a drive-by shootout in Astoria early Sunday morning.

The driver of a white SUV pulled up alongside two men in the vicinity of 36th Street and 28th Avenue at around 3:50 a.m. and an occupant inside the car fired off several shots at them, police said.

As the driver of the SUV sped off, the two men on foot returned fire, according to police. The pair shot at the vehicle as it drove off in a westbound direction along 28th Avenue.

The two men on foot fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said. There were no reported injuries.

The NYPD released photos of the men who were on foot, including one where the suspect is firing off what appears to be a silver revolver. The police also released an image of the SUV.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of the men is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

Gang fight? cops can’t really do much about to prevent them, but I bet they will catch these, despite all the hurdles NYPD is facing, defund the NYPD and deal with these criminals yourselves. Why not defund but allow guns in NYC then? Let’s protect ourselves with our own guns, richer you are, bigger guns you can get. When thugs don’t know what you are packing, they will think twice about going after you.

Gun control doesn't work.

Criminals don’t follow laws or rules so essentially gun control legislation only effects citizens that are law abiding. It’s not the gun it’s the individual. Do we blame spoons for making us fat? If you want to place blame start with the politicians that make excuses for criminals and take soft on crime positions that makes everyone less safe. Then blame the community leaders in the high crime areas that find it easier to blame outsiders and ‘systematic’ issues instead of taking responsibility for their own shortcomings. You can blame a culture too that emphasizes all the wrong messages and idolizes bozos. Blame a criminal justice system lets violent criminals walk. Blame a political party that made the police the criminals and the criminals the victims. Blame parents for not raising their kids right or expecting the ‘village’ to do their job for them. I can think of many to blame before I get to the Republican Party.

Gun control only works in Australia, Canada, Germany, Britain, Japan and every other advanced nation on Earth.

Who in their right mind would want more gun control after watching weeks of riots and violence? Obviously the cops can’t help you as they can barely protect themselves. The only ones that probably want more gun control is the mob that finds it easier to hurt and intimidate the defenseless.

Anonymous- How many people do you personally know who have been physically hurt by the riots and demonstrations who weren’t actively involved with them? Right mind? You sound like you’re emotionally scarred by the sensationalized coverage of the protests, marches, demonstrations and “riots” on TV. There were demonstrations all around the world and there were no incidents involving firearms in any of those (hundreds of demonstrations). Gun control obviously played a role in keeping those police demonstrators and citizens safer. As Republicans constantly say after gun massacres, don’t let emotion get in the way.
