Mayor Bill de Blasio is bringing back alternate side parking for a week—in order to conduct a “clean sweep.”
The mayor said this morning that alternate side parking will go into effect the week of May 18 though May 24 so that all the trash that has been accumulating in recent weeks can be cleared.
He said he decided to reinstate the requirement after consultation with the Sanitation Department.
“We’ve said from the start we have to keep an eye on how our neighborhoods are looking,” de Blasio said. “We want to keep them clean.”
The city will suspend alternate parking again for the following two weeks from May 25 through June 7. He will that the Sanitation Department will determine during that time whether the suspension will be extended.

And those that live in the now “pedestrian streets” have to move their cars and fight for a parking spot on the adjacent streets.
Want to get rid of cars? Improve public transportation, that’s all.
“Move your aaaaazzzz” ok, tell that to our elder, disabled, pregnant, injured, etc. not everyone is a healthy as you.

I sweep the front and side of my home on a regular basis. None of my neighbors do so.
why do some neighborhoods need alternate side and other communities do not have any alternate side parking?…the communities without alternate side parking are cleaner than the ones with alternate side parking. maybe it is just the behavior of the people living in these communities….
Guest, we need street cleaning for public health reasons, especially to clean up after all the dogs in NYC.
The whole city needs to be sanitized.
I been keeping up with sweeping beyond curb and so has my neighbors .
But then theres others who
dont care and let in pile .
So far this Spring we’ve had a good amount of rain on a regular basis. That’s kept our streets pretty clean so far in my neighborhood, but good they’re getting swept soon.
If everyone kept their sidewalk clean, and if people weren’t pigs, we wouldn’t really need street cleaning. Not that they clean much but at least they pick up the bulky stuff. It’s meant as a revenue stream for the city so people don’t just park their cars and never move them.
Sadly it will push sick people out of their homes and force them to move their cars, possibly park few blocks away and walk back -most likely in another snowy day in May.. Where is spring folks…
