There have been 14 residential burglaries in the 108 Police Precinct this year, with at least nine of them in Sunnyside, according to police.
Deputy Inspector Michael Gibbs, the commanding officer for the 108 Police Precinct, said that one suspect is responsible for at least nine of the 14 residential burglaries, with another man wanted for at least two of them.
“We have seen a huge increase in burglaries in the 108 precinct this year,” Gibbs said, who was speaking at the Precinct Community Council meeting in Sunnyside last night. “There has been a massive spike.”
Gibbs said that there have been six residential burglaries in Sunnyside Gardens this year, with another three on Greenpoint Avenue in the vicinity of 47th Street. The remaining burglaries, he said, are scattered throughout the precinct—although each is within a short walk from the No. 7 train.
Gibbs said that they believe that Rahmel Bullock, a 34-year-old African American man who is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, is responsible for at least three of the Sunnyside Gardens burglaries and most of the remaining incidents in the precinct.
He said that Bullock, who weighs about 150 pounds, has been breaking into homes through open windows and doors, and then walking out with credit cards and valuables. He has allegedly broken into homes when people have been home.
Additionally, he has been breaking into apartments via fire escapes and scaffolding, Gibbs said.
“He is brazen, fearless. He’s a recidivist…this is what he does,” Gibbs said. He noted that Bullock does not have a history of being violent.
Gibbs said that they are close to making an arrest, although he said with the state’s new bail law he is likely to be released.
“We are close [to getting him],” Gibbs said. “We have two teams looking to grab him. I am confident.”
The police said that there is another man they are looking for burglary. This man broke into two houses on 45th Street in Sunnyside Gardens on Jan. 14.
The police have video footage of the suspect, who is described as Hispanic, wearing all black.
Gibbs said that they have stepped up police presence in the area and have deployed plain clothes cops.

@Nadya- You May want to revisit your facts in the incidents of antisemitism in Brooklyn. The overwhelming number of incidents were committed by youth who shared the same race as the Jersey City terrorists.
Anonymous. They mention the race so that we know it’s not another one of the white supremacists like the ones who attack Jewish people in Brooklyn, etc, etc.
Don’t blame the cops it is not their fault. You better blame these low-life politicians who voted for No bail. They do not care about you. As soon as this fine upstanding member of society is arrested, he’s only going to be released, therefore he has incentive to keep committing these burglaries. He knows he’s going to get away with it. But on the upside there’s going to be more bike Lanes ?.
I agree with Jerry and would definitely volunteer.
If people would stop griping about Gentrification (which means to rebuild and improve) then these perpetrators are the one who will be marginalized and driven further away… crime drops when the crooks cant afford to be anywhere nearby.
Was it necessary to mention his race?
@Claude..The blame lies with the progressive politicians in the city and state..It’s not Inspector Gibbs choice to catch and release criminals. I’m sure he and most other sensible people would prefer this perp would stay locked up. This is only the tip of the iceberg as it’s going to inevitably be a crime ridden 2020 in NYC.
PLEASE Queens Post, post a list, or tell us how to get a list of the elected officials who approved this stupid “bail reform”. Voters should know! Thank you!
Great! Hes hiding now and when they catch him , he wont be held.
Why dont they just reward him.
Backwards place this has turned into.
Councilman. You have more time on your hands now. Where is your outrage? Do your job! Demand action, our neighborhood must be protected.
I have seen this guy. He sneaks on the 7 train at the 47th Street station and carries an empty brown leather bag.
@David- You and a couple of your neighbors need to printout and post this criminals picture around the building and the block. He’ll see it and stay away, others will see it and recognize him.
There should be a citizen patrol. When they catch him he should be strung up to the nearest tree and left to dangle as an example to other potential criminals.
That bail reform is really working out well. Criminals don’t need punishment!
“‘We have seen a huge increase in burglaries in the 108 precinct this year,’ Gibbs said, who was speaking at the Precinct Community Council meeting in Sunnyside last night. ‘There has been a massive spike.’”
Gee, what could be driving this massive spike in burglaries and other crimes? Perhaps it’s New York’s bail reform law. Without fear of being held in jail, criminals will operate with impunity and crime will skyrocket this year. Indeed, it already has. Stand against bail reform now.
To the new people moving in. You’re allowing your friends and neighbors to be victimized in the name of political correctness. You know when somebody is suspicious and out of place, its not racism. Let people know, tell a neighbor, let the perp know you saw him ( a friendly “good day”, place a suspicious person call to the cops. You know who your neighbors are. Perps go out of their way to exploit this desire to be political correct against us.
Stunning uptime in numbers! Thanks to the 108th for the update, and for the detailed description and photo. Catch these guys soon! Someone should post a printout of this article with his photo.
wow this bail reform act has to be the stupidest thing I have EVER seen. fully expect this fool to get released and go right back to robbing houses.
What were these politicians actually thinking? There is nothing to deter these criminals anymore and more and more horrendous people that should be locked up for years behind bars are stealing from the people who are actually abiding by laws. SHAME ON YOU!
There is a tall skinny black man trying to break into cars. I saw him outside my window on the corner of 45th St and 39th Ave. He casually walks by a car and pretends to be unlocking the pot trying different cars.
The new bail laws are to keep the innocent free. NYPD were scooping up innocent black and brown men and throwing them in jail. Now that even the guilty are being freed its up to the Republic to defend themselves and not rely on the police. They’re no resources to cover it all you must do what you need to do to defend yourself.
Democratic policies have emboldened criminals. Open your eyes liberals. Our city is being overrun and all you can so is cry racism. Stop putting all of us at risk because you feel offended.
Gibbs should resign if that is the best he can do, Shameful that a law enforcement officer could come out with such dribble.
We’ve had mail stolen from our building lobby several times. There’s video of the guy, too. Will they ever catch the guy? Unlikely. The problem is there is no police presence to speak of in Sunnyside. It’s a perfect environment for a thief, or worse. The police need to step-up their patrols and become a visible deterrent.
