A 29-year-old Sunnyside man who sent lewd pictures of himself via text to undercover cops posing as a young boy was arrested Thursday for sex-related crimes.
Frederick Scheinin, according to federal investigators, sent photos of his erect penis through a video messaging app to the officers—who he thought was a 14-year-old boy.
Scheinin, who worked as an investigator with the DEA, allegedly asked the “boy” on several occasions between October 2019 and January 2020 for pictures of his genitals.
On Dec. 20, according to the charges, Scheinin sent pictures of his penis via the app to the “boy” and wrote:
“Let me see yours. I promise not to judge if that’s what you’re nervous about. I don’t care about size…If I send you another one maybe that will change your mind.”
The pair, the feds alleged, also chatted via video on a different occasion, where Scheinin exposed himself and masturbated while trying to convince the 14-year-old to do the same.
Scheinin, according to the charges, also invited the “boy,” who said he lived with his parents in Whitestone, to his Sunnyside apartment—asking him if he was familiar with the 7 train.
Police nabbed Scheinin after he arranged to meet the “boy,” where the defendant was to show up with condoms and a lubricant for sex. Police intercepted him at the designated location with the paraphernalia and arrested him.
Scheinin has been charged with one count of attempted production of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison; and one count of attempted enticement of a minor, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Scheinin worked at the New York Field office of the DEA up until his arrest Thursday.
“As a diversion investigator at the DEA, Frederick Scheinin’s foremost responsibility was to protect the public from illegally diverted drugs,” said U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman for the Southern District of New York. “Instead of fulfilling this worthy mission, Scheinin allegedly spent months attempting to prey on a 14-year-old boy. This arrest exemplifies that no one is above the law.”
He was ordered held on $100,000 bond in federal court Friday.

Cathleen – I don’t believe you’re legit. I was here from the 50’s on. I remember the crimes from the 60’s through the 80’s and knew most who committed them here on this ( now called north side) side of “the” Blvd. The Mets Apartments (Now the Cosmopolitans) had the vast majority of all crimes perpetrated and perps in the area and some very serious crimes like murder and drug dealing. The rest of the area had mostly, what’s called crime against property like auto break ins and thefts vandalism like graffiti and property damage and so on. Most of these things were hardly mentioned by press like The NY Daily News NY Post or Long Island Press or local papers (equivalent to today’s blogs) like the Woodside Herald or Tribune, they only came out once a week. I remember the group of kids who hung out at 44th Street and 43rd ave (TJ’s) , the youth who hung out at 52nd Street and Skillman down to the Optimo Store and Rosarios Pizza. There was much more rowdy behavior in the area especially with the lower drinking age. Yes other incidents and crime did occur, although rare, and they appear to be just as rare as they were back than even with all of the up to the minute and in your face media like blogs, twitter, Facebook and citizens app just to name a few, these crimes and incidents are as rare as they were back then. So please spare us the drama and Fox Entertainment exaggerations, it’s still a safe area and just as if you were walking around Malba Upper East Side Battery Park City Beverly Hills or Palm Beach, you need the be aware of your surroundings and what’s going on.
Patrick (the commenter on this board) represents some newcomers to this neighborhood and a few old time residents that either like to deny upticks in crime or prefer to live “in their own world” thinking “if it did not happen to me or a loved one I do not want to hear about it”. Learn from what happened in Brooklyn with the assaults and harressment being virtually ignored by our mayor and police officials for months until it turned into a mass stabbing inside someones home. Naming a street after someone that past away or a new puppy day care opening up in the neighborhood is nice to read about but people also need to know how to protect themselves from danger.
“No one is above the law.” Couldn’t agree more with the Southern District of New York. Wish their boss, Attorney General Barr, felt the same way.
Wow how can a sick man like this be in a position of law enforcement ?
Why don’t you guys at the Sunnyside Post post something positive for a second? It’s continual darkness with you guys from theft to theft to underage sex crimes. There’s a lot of positive things going on if you make a bit of an effort to look around you.
