Sept. 19, 2019 Staff Report
A large Korean-fried chicken restaurant is opening on the corner of Queens Boulevard and 44th Street—taking over the space vacated by a Dave’s Bagels, Riko Peruvian Chicken and a hardware store.
Mad for Chicken, which operates a restaurant on Northern Boulevard in Flushing, plans on opening the Queens Boulevard space at the beginning of next year. The establishment is currently under construction.
The operators went before Community Board 2 last week and briefly discussed their plans.
The eatery will be large, with 72 seats on the first floor and 48 seats in the basement. The owners plan on operating the restaurant from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week.
The restaurant will be moving into a block that continues to undergo change.
Amazon Pharmacy, located at 43-10 Queens Blvd., is moving out at the end of the month, as its 10-year lease has come to an end. The pharmacy is moving to 42-08 43rd Ave.

Everyone loved the bagel place!!! Where did it go?
If you don’t know what you are talking about, don’t comment. Alewife Brewery is still coming to Sunnyside on 39th St. The construction permits took longer than expected.
Are the chicken free-range? Ideally they should raise them on the roof and feed them organic stuff. Sunnyside wants some cookadoodledoo. I am also very impressed at the amounts of comments this key topic gets.
There is one on Northern Blvd in Flushing, which used to be a diverse place full of Americans. This Korean restaurant refuses to cater to non Koreans. I’m just saying it, not judging. It’s not a run down chicken joint like KFC or others, however they have many ways making you feel not welcome if you’re non Korean. Good luck
I’ve gone to the one on Northern several times, I’m a white guy, and I’ve had literally 0 issues. Terrific food and service. You sound like a clown.
what about KFC?
Yes! the japanese grocery store will stay! I hope for now.
I need a bagel.
I really hate when a new place or existing business takes over multiple units. This takes away two spots that other new businesses could have used excluding the spot for their own business. Then good luck with anyone putting any walls up to separate the units again because larger area allows the rent to stay high.
I wish we could get a comic store or good clothing or shoe stores around here. Years ago I could buy clothing right in Sunnyside, now I have to go all the way to Queens Center Mall to buy clothing and shoes because the few that exist often don’t sell what I need and every other business is restaurants, cafes and takeout. This place just adds to the glut of food places in the area because there are too many and their all the same thing.
If it has to be a place to eat what about a nice ice cream parlor like the one we had in the spot Riko’s is now? Everything similar is frozen yogurt not ice cream.
This is a large higher end restaurant. Google the existing one. It looks more like Sidetracks did. It’s not some low level place.
Or you know, the internet exists and you can do online shopping for clothes/shoe. It’s the leading reason why people don’t need malls anymore. Clothing shops are a dying business, and we did have a comic book store around 46th street years ago, and that closed down too. People make businesses that make money, and clearly your personal choices don’t.
At least it will decrease the pigeon population in the area.
I thought the Trumptards ate them all already.
Trump 2020.
In Queens working class white residents and businesses are gentrified out by Asians and even Latinos. Won’t hear about it like you do in Brooklyn or Harlem though because it doesn’t fit the narrative
Your not going to work for SNL with jokes like that.
Hope they serve bagels also.
I hope this lot will eventually be redeveloped. Queens Blvd. shouldn’t have all these temporary taxpayer lowrise structures; it should be consistent midrise infill, from LIC out to Jamaica.
Does anyone know whatever happened to the brewery that was supposed to open. The last that we heard they were unloading equipment.
more beer just what we need
I heard that they changed their mind. No brewery for Sunnyside. Sorry!!!!!!
pretty cool but why so big though? takes up 3 stores and now we get less variety!!
Neighborhood is done. Do we really need more chicken joints.
what other fried chicken place is around there?????
Better than those 99 cents junk store which everyone knows nothing is
Pelicana Chicken right over on Greenpoint Avenue near 47th Street comes to mind.
At least it’s not like Forest Hills/Rego Park where all that comes in are catering places (Russians have parties 7 days a week) and pharmacies who except Medicare for their own and probably bill the government for services they haven’t performed. I’ve lived there over 35 years and hate what the area has turned into. I’ll take a good fried chicken place anytime! I also miss Ben’s Deli.
You are an anti-Russian bigot.
Pelicana chicken is literally 2 blocks away on Greenpoint Ave. WE NEED BAGELS!!!
Thought they were tearing all these buildings down.
I’m excited about this.
Love their chicken, can’t wait .
Awesome. This place Rocks.
I thought they all got kicked out because the plan was to redevelop the lot :/
Well, I’m happy the Japanese grocery store will still be around.
That’s what I thought but, hopefully, that plan has changed. It wouldve been great if that plan had changed BEFORE the bagel store closed, tho.
