A free variety show is coming to Windmuller Park in Woodside at the end of August.

The show takes place on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 6.30 p.m. and is directed by Whoop Dee Doo, a traveling group of artists who create installations and live performances across the country.

The group is known for big, colorful sets and endless pop culture references, along with zany plots. In the past, it has included a rapping Dracula and an orchestra of spiders in their performances. The performance at Windmuller Park will feature a tired werewolf and a high-energy can of soda.

The show will connect audiences and performers through artmaking and various performances. Current partners include:

Tibetan Community Center of NY & NJ
Woodside Dance Troupe
Bula Arts & Culture
Queens Music Academy
Colombian Dance Company of NY

Whoop Dee Doo is collaborating with a number of local teens and community arts and culture groups to direct the variety show.

Woodside-based arts and culture groups will perform on a set built by members of Whoop Dee Doo and local Woodside teenagers.

The artists have also worked with Queens high school students to design costumes and props, as well as developing a theme for the show.

The event is using Windmuller Park as its venue and inspiration for the project and it aims to celebrate the diverse cultures of Queens residents.

Those wishing to attend the variety show are encouraged to bring seats and blankets to sit out in front of the bandshell, along with water and other refreshments to stay cool and hydrated.

The event is presented by PARADE, a Queens-based public arts program. PARADE co-founders Nancy Kleaver and Paddy Johnson established the program to collaborate with local artists and launch large scale public art which engages the community.
