June 25, 2019 Staff Report
The police have made a quick arrest in busting a Woodside man wanted for trying to abduct a 10-year-old boy near Roosevelt Avenue on Monday.
Sang Lee, 76, of 59th Street in Woodside, allegedly tried to grab the child by the arm and pull him into a building while the victim was walking near Roosevelt Avenue and 59th Street with his parents.
The parents were able to pull their son to safety and he was unharmed.
Lee was charged Tuesday with an “act in a manner injurious to a child” and “unlawful imprisonment.”
Lee’s daughter, however, told PIX11 News that the incident was a big misunderstanding. She reported that her father, who is Korean, does not speak English and has Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Wow 108 precinct was quick to catch this old man… I thought they were too preoccupied with handing out parking tickets to catch the suspect.
Bike Lanes!!!
The 108 did a great job getting rid of bees, cleaning up graffiti, and capturing the most wanted elderly fugitives with dementia. Now they just need to catch the Chase bank robber and the two remaining Burger King gang members.
I though never heard that dementia or Alzheimer make people kidnap others. This is the first time I ever heard. I supposed it will be proven in court / medical expert In the next few weeks whether it supports the man or not.
caring parent – People with dementia (alzheimers is only proven in postmortem) have hallucinations. How often do you hear of abductions of children by elderly people in the middle of a busy city street in broad daylight? Would this be a rational MO in your opinion?
If he has demensia or Alzheimer’s what makes her think he can be left alone at any time, now?
I don’t understand some people. I’ve never even wanted a child of my own let alone someone else’s.
He was an old man with dementia, not a predator. This is not evidence that ‘the neighborhood is going to hell’ or whatever scaremongering.
Doesn’t matter. Abduction of a child in any case is a very serious issue. Let’s say he succeeded… For what? What did he need the child for??? What was he going to have the child DO? Was he going to feed, clothe, tend to the child properly? Send him to school? Take him to Drs and hospitals when needed? Dentists? Opthalmologists?
Doesn’t matter, the parents were able to just pull the child away. He must have not wanted the child that badly. Sounds like fear mongering.
And what happens if the kid was alone? That happens more and more now. At younger ages than 10!
I still blame DeBlasio and AOC
