Queens Public Library Petition

April 25, 2010 Staff Report

Representatives from the Queens Public Library system are fighting city officials to ensure that likely cuts aren’t too severe.

They are aggressively undertaking a petition drive, both within each library and online.

The following petition form is on http://www.savequeenslibrary.org

Queens Library is currently facing a severe reduction in city funding. Over the last three years, the library has already sustained difficult cuts, and combined with the current proposals, it would amount to a staggering 27% reduction in our funding.

Such losses will have a truly devastating impact. Libraries in every part of the borough could be closed four and five days per week; one third of programs could be slashed, and hundreds of library employees could lose their jobs.

We cannot let this happen!
