Free Tax Services Available at Woodside on the Move Until April

Woodside on the Move (WOTM), the longstanding neighborhood non-profit, is offering free tax preparation services this year to qualified New Yorkers.

The free tax services are available to those earning $54,000 or less with dependents, or $30,000 or less with no dependents.

In addition, Woodside on the Move will assist seniors who have a gross income of $18,000 or less prepare their taxes.

The group says it will help low-income residents claim refunds and credits, including the earned income tax credit, which can be worth over $8,000 for families.

Those interested in the service should bring along all pertinent documents, including:

– Photo IDs
– Social Security cards or a letter from the SSA
– W’2s and 1099 forms
– Form 1095-A (health insurance premium tax credit)
– Childcare expense records
– Routing and account numbers for direct deposit
– Form 1098-T if tuition was paid for post-high school education

All services are available until April 12, and appointments can be scheduled for by calling Woodside on the Move at 718-467-8449.

Appointments for non-seniors can be made for Mondays and Thursdays only from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at WOTM’s offices, located at 39-42 59th St.

Senior assistance will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same time and locations, beginning February 13.

Spanish-speaking preparers are available upon request.

A Brooklyn man was indicted by a Queens grand jury on charges of manslaughter, drunk driving and other crimes for a fatal collision in Astoria that killed his long-time girlfriend and mother of their young child in February.

Ray Perez, 27, of Caton Avenue in Flatbush, was arraigned Thursday in Queens Supreme Court on a 13-count indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter for allegedly speeding through a stop sign in Astoria, colliding with another vehicle and slamming into two parked cars, and then driving nearly four miles away to a street in Maspeth before seeking help for his 29-year-old girlfriend Bridget Enriquez, who later succumbed to her injuries.
