The police have arrested a Brooklyn man who allegedly exposed himself eight times to several underage girls in three Queens neighborhoods–including Woodside– between May and November.

Christopher Carrero, 23, was arrested Wednesday just three days after police released footage of him riding his bicycle while fleeing one of the incidents.  He was arrested on six counts of public lewdness and six counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said.

Carrero allegedly approached his victims that ranged in age between 11 and 15 in Woodside, Ridgewood and Maspeth and exposed his penis to them, according to police.

His tactics included approaching the underage girls and asking them for a piece of paper before exposing his groin, police said. He then would flee on his bike. Other methods included making a statement to get a victim’s attention and exposing his penis to them once they turn.

In the first two incidents, both on May 11, Carrero allegedly approached a 13-year-old girl near 48th Street and Laurel Hill Boulevard at around 7:24 a.m. and exposed his penis to her after asking for a piece of paper, according to police. Nearly an hour later, one block away from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, he employed the same tactic on a 14-year-old girl. Both victims were not physically injured, police said.

Two more incidents of him asking for a piece of paper before showing his penis allegedly took place near Ridgewood’s Evergreen Park on the afternoon of Sept. 20, where the victim was a 15-year-old, and another one block away from Ridgewood’s I.S. 77 on the afternoon of Oct. 2, where the victim was a 12-year-old, according to police.

In the four other incidents, taking place on May 30, June 2, Oct. 17, and two on Nov. 2, Carrero allegedly exposed his penis to a 13-year-old, a 14-year-old, a 12-year-old, an 11-year-old, and a 12 and 13-year-old, respectively, after making statements to get their attention, police said. He then fled on his bike. None of the underage girls were physically hurt, according to police.

Lawmakers secure federal funding to combat flooding in Queens after impact of Hurricane Ida and other storms

U.S. Congresswomen Grace Meng and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, announced on Jan. 7 that President Joe Biden has signed their legislation into law to address severe flooding in Queens.

The measure aims to mitigate future disasters like those caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in September 2021, which inundated the borough with record-shattering rainfall.

Op-ed | New York’s ground lease co-ops: Our families can’t wait any longer

Jan. 14, 2025 By Michael Tang

Last December brought a long-awaited victory for New York City. Our City Council adopted the historic City of Yes housing plan, paving the way for more than 80,000 new homes by 2040 with the promise of affordability. As a longtime resident of Flushing, Queens, I naturally welcomed the news – it’s a much-needed reprieve for New Yorkers as housing costs continue to soar in the midst of an unparalleled housing crisis. But entering 2025 on the heels of this win, we residents at  Murray Hill Cooperative remain at risk — our lives are virtually unchanged because we belong to the last class of unprotected “tenants” as ground lease co-op residents. Without legislative action, more than 25,000 New Yorkers face the threat of losing their homes — homes that we own — to landowners seeking to raise our ground rent to astronomical rates.
