Oct. 19, 2017 Staff Report
A Halloween costume contest for dogs is taking place in Sunnyside this Saturday as part of a full day of activities organized by the canine organizations Korean K9 Rescue and Sunnyside United Dog Society (SUDS).
The series of events will take place between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the dog run at Lou Lodati Park, located on the corner at Skillman Ave and 43rd Street, and will include a costume contest, puppy kissing booths (participants get to kiss the dogs), professional groomers, mini dog training sessions and more for a nominal donation of $15 to Korean K9 Rescue.
Korean K9 Rescue is an all-volunteer group that tries to save dogs from being slaughtered in South Korea for human consumption. The group shuts down South Korean dog farms through active protest and legislative advocacy and then flies rescued animals over to New York City to find homes for them.
“This Saturday is an opportunity for the public to meet our miracle rescues and for everyone to enjoy dogs,” said Gina Boehler, director of Korean K9 Rescue.
To participate in the day’s main attraction, the dog costume contest, owners can register at the dog run beginning at 12:00 pm. The official judging will take place at 3:00 pm.
The contest will be judged by SUDS founder Rick Duro and Christian Murray, publisher of the Sunnyside Post/Queens Post.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places are a $150 gift card to Wespaw Pets Sunnyside, a $100 gift card to PS9 Pets at 169 N. 9th St in Brooklyn and a $50 gift card to PS9 Pets respectively.
A cupcake contest will also take place at 1:30 pm where guests are invited to bring six (6) decorated cup cakes for consideration, with extra points given to gluten-free and vegan recipes. The winner will receive a $100 Petco gift card.
Maiella LIC will cater vegan and vegetarian food for the all-day event, with other food and drinks made available by other participating donors.
Raffles will also be held for gift cards. Prizes include four (4) $25 gift cards to Lenita Taqueria and Bar in the Financial District; six designer framed sunglasses valued at $500 each; 45 minutes of personal fitness training from a NESTA (National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association) certified trainer valued at $75; a free manicure to Susie’s Nail Salon in the Upper West Side, and more.
Additionally, there will be six puppies and three adult dogs available for adoption from the Korean K9 Rescue network.

El Loco still hasn’t answered up to any of Oran Juice Jones accusations. I think El Loco should be sent to Korea on the next trip there.

Unfair to cats, canaries, and chimpanzees!
Or Muslims. Maybe there should be a Halloween contest for refugees of Arab nations. It might be the only way this country shows compassion for anything other than a dog.
