A new traffic light has gone up at the intersection of 43rd Avenue and 47th Street, in response to complaints about reckless drivers speeding down 43rd Avenue putting pedestrians at risk.
The intersection is just a block away from Little Friends Pre-K, a 56-seat school that small children and their parents walk to. It is also an intersection used by many pedestrians who walk to the 46th Street train station.
To mark the installation, Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, representatives of the Department of Transportation and pre-school children turned out to celebrate.
“The installation of pedestrian and traffic signals at this dangerous intersection is a huge relief for the people of Sunnyside,” Van Bramer said. “After constituents voiced concerns to me of speeding cars and with a Pre-K center and major 7 train station just a block away, I met with the Department of Transportation and highlighted this intersection for the installation of traffic and pedestrian signals.”
Van Bramer noted that the need for the light has grown, with the uptick in the number of bicyclists using the roadway and the expansion of area schools. He also said that there have been16 non-fatal injuries over the course of six years at the intersection.
DOT Queens Borough Commissioner Nicole Garcia credited Van Bramer with aggressively pushing for the traffic signal and crosswalk after he was contacted by community members.
“There is nothing more important that I do as a councilman than making our neighborhoods safer for our children,” Van Bramer said.

I have an idea, let’s put stop signs and red lights on every block until sineads kids figure out how to cross, then take them all down and throw them away. Why don’t parents stop double parking illegally outside schools and stop screwing traffic up. Stop watching tv all day and park a block away and walk to pick up your kid. The world doesn’t revolve around little junior.

El Loco should run for JVB’s position. El loco will straighten out all you jackasses and clean up the neighborhood. He will win in a landslide. Al from Sunnyside can be the doorman. Jake Tapper and Don Lemon can be the valet parkers for any snowflakes coming to office in their Snowflake cars (non American Prius, Subaru and Volvo wagons) there will be a designated crying area for them as well in El Loco’s new office. Barbara will be serving her homemade cookies (really Enterrmans that she takes out of the box). And of course Oran Juice Jones will be the entertainment performing hisbhit song “Walking in the Rain”.

Thank goodness this light is going up. Too many snowflakes driving like nuts so they get to their organic markets in their snowflake cars. Notice all Snowflakes drive foreign cars not made in US. They will always be in a Toyota Prius, Volvo or Subaru. So when you see one of these cars with the “I’m with her” bumper stickers make sure to jump out of the way.

I’m glad they put the light up. Now maybe the Sunnyside Snowflakes driving their non American made snowflakemobiles (aka: Subaru, Volvo and Toyota Prius) will slow down and stop at corner. They are always blowing through that intersection on their way to Starbucks or some Organic market.
Next time you or someone you love gets run down by an American made car I guess you’ll be just a little less disappointed because you or they were injured or killed by an American made car – makes sense to me.

The crime rate across America began dropping one generation after women were given a choice in how they wanted to deal with an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy. Previously, children who were born illegitimately (and unwanted) were far more likely to become juvenile delinquents, to use drugs and alcohol, and to also have out-of-wedlock pregnancies. Not any longer and we’ve seen crime rates across America drop dramatically.
Planned Parenthood has provided millions of men and women birth control (I took my first girlfriend there so she could get a prescription for the pill. They also offer many other medical procedures. We’re lucky that such an organization exists AND that they’re not going anywhere; in fact, they’re expanding and doing more for society than ever before.

Hmm Spencer. I happen to enjoy the homeless shelters on the block. Me and Fed Up and Al from sunnyside have a great Tuesday night Texas Hold Em tournament there. They are some of the best poker players. We then end the night eating twinkies and drinking fair trade coffee. Join us some night, you are welcome. We open the night with Oran Juice Jones singing the Natuonal Anthem. We offer free transportation to the game in our Toyota Prius and VW Bus.
