This Saturday local pups will have a chance to strut their stuff.
The Halloween spirit will continue through this weekend, with the fifth annual Woofside Pet Parade. Parade registration begins at 11 a.m. at Skillman Pets (49-16 Skillman Avenue), with the march going from Skillman Pets to Windmuller Park. It kicks off at 11:30 a.m.
In addition to the parade itself, there will be festivities at Windmuller Park at noon that will include a pet costume contest and obedience tests. Past winners have included a dog dressed as the 7 train and spider-dog, among others.
“We run this event in partnership with small businesses like Skillman Pets, and it’s an opportunity for neighbors and their pets to come out and enjoy the day together,” said Executive Director of Woodside on the Move Amy Paul.
The parade began five years ago as the brainchild of former executive director Adrian Bordoni, and has drawn between 80 to 100 dogs (and their owners) each year.
The parade is free to all participants. Entry in the costume contest costs $10, with all proceeds going to Woodside on the Move. Participants can register at Skillman Pets the morning of the event or preregister online here: Click for link

Please clean up after your dog, though. I’m all for this parade, but not the droppings the dog owners never bother to clean up after their dog lays it’s mark on the sidewalks.
Only in Woodside and it’s backwards officials would they host a Haloweem parade a week after the holiday.

Parade was originally the brain child of Mary Smyth of 52nd Street and formerly of “Woodside on the Move”. She developed the parade, hung posters and instilled pride for animal owners and gave them a way to show off their pets off during Halloween. Thank You Mary for starting this for the community!
Nice. I like pet owners. I wish i could have one in my building. I would adopt and give a poor animal a home.
