Sunnyside residents will be able to party while raise money for a good cause this Thursday.

Road to Greatness (R2G), a newly formed organization that aims to develop after-school programs in Sunnyside and Woodside, is hosting a fundraiser called “The 30 for 30 Party”.

The event will be held at Maggie Mae’s (41-15 Queens Blvd) June 30, between 7 pm and 11 pm.

Tickets cost $30, which will entitle attendees to one free beer, food donated from local restaurants and a raffle ticket for gifts offered by local businesses.

All proceeds from the event will go toward R2G’s mission of providing sports and arts after-school programs.

RoadtogreatnessR2G, through promoting leadership via its programs, aims to help the next generation strive for success so they can have a prosperous life.

Kenny Medrano, a Sunnyside resident, founded R2G in May 2015, after a popular local youth program disbanded in June 2014.

This past April, the organization launched its own pilot sports and arts program at P.S. 199 (39-20 48th Ave).

“Road to Greatness was created with the belief that every person has the ability to achieve their own greatness,” Medrano said, who describes himself as once being an at-risk teen himself.

“Some people are actively pursuing that greatness, while others need motivation to begin charting their own path,” he added.

“My peers and I grew up facing struggles, and we know first-hand that sometimes you just need a positive figure – one that is there to help our local youth chart that path of success, and foster a support network to help them thrive. Road to Greatness was founded on that principle.”
