Stop signs will remain at 57th Street and 39th Avenue, an intersection near P.S. 361 where parents were petitioning to keep them.
DOT officials confirmed that the agency will authorize a multi-way stop at this intersection and will also reinstall a crosswalk that had been removed.
Temporary stop signs were placed at 57th Street and 39th Avenue by the School Construction Authority during construction of P.S. 361, according to the DOT. Once construction finished, the DOT began a review of the intersection for a stop sign or traffic signal.
Almost 150 people had signed a petition launched last month to put stop signs at this intersection permanently.
“We believe that these crosswalks are absolutely necessary for our children and community members to cross the intersection safely,” the petition read. “We insist on the highest level of safety for them and for all in our community.”
