Sunnyside Shines, a business improvement group that promotes this neighborhood’s commercial district, is launching a local rewards card offering deals and discounts at more than 30 local stores.
The plastic “Shop Sunnyside” card will be available next week and will entitle cardholders to various discounts at Sunnyside’s local businesses.
Cardholders just need to present the card at a participating business to receive the discount.
The card offers a variety of deals – such as $2 off cocktails until 8 p.m. at the Gaslight Bar, 10 percent off all cash purchases (deliveries and events excluded) at Sunnyside Florist, and a 20 percent discount on frames and lenses at Sunnysight Optik (restrictions apply).
Cardholders shopping at Taiyo Foods will receive a free green tea or Japanese snack with any purchase of $20 or more.
Looking for some ink? Sunnyside Tattoo offers cardholders 5 percent off tattoos over $200.
“We wanted to showcase the variety of businesses in the neighborhood,” said Sunnyside Shines executive director Rachel Thieme.
Cards are free and can be obtained from the Sunnyside Shines office, events around the neighborhood, and most local real estate offices starting in mid-May.
On May 14 at noon, Sunnyside Shines will hold a launch event in Bliss Plaza (at 46th Street and Queens Boulevard) to officially kick off the promotion and distribute cards and Shop Sunnyside bags.
Local residents may request a free card and browse the full list of discounts offered at shopsunnyside.com.
The promotion is open to all businesses located within the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District (BID).

Whatever they give discounts for, they should not bother with the Copper Kettle. It has gone way down hill an the female bartender who is there at night (Saturday?) is a low life.
This is a great idea – very important to incentivize buying in the neighborhood. Thanks Sunnyside Shines!
