Cris & Jason Beauty Studio, located at 46-27 Skillman Avenue, closed last week to renovate the salon.
“After 5 years, we wanted to upgrade the equipment and furniture to give it a modern look, and to provide new services for our clients,” said Nieves Guaman, who owns the salon with her sisters Marlene and Tanya Guaman.
The studio is divided into two rooms both with its own entrance from the sidewalk, one room specifically for hair styling and cuts, and the other for spa treatments and nails, which was the unit that was renovated.
The spa also has a private area for neck, back, and body massages.
The spa area now features new furniture that includes vibrating chairs with jet-streamed foot massage equipment. The interior walls have been painted and the decor changed.
Sunnyside resident Karen Sheim, who has been a client over the past three years, described the studio and renovations as “a happy and colorful” upgrade.
The beauty salon provides haircuts, facials, professional makeup services, and full body waxing.
Guaman said that the renovation inspired them to make additional changes to their operations.
“We wanted to upgrade our sanitary practices as well, so we decided to purchase an autoclave device to sanitize all of our equipment before use,” she said. Autoclave devices are heating instruments used primarily in surgery rooms to disinfect tools, but which have also become a standard to use in nail grooming.
Nevertheless, customers will be able to opt to use AvryBeauty Disposable Manicure and Pedicure packs designed for one-time use. These packs include Avry Shea Butter Gloves, which are free of toxic chemicals such as paraben, phthalate and triclosan.
The three sisters, who opened the beauty store in October 2012, aim to provide mothers with some pampering this weekend.
On Saturday, May 7th, they will have a Mother’s Day special offering manicures and pedicures with lemon spa treatment and hair blow drying at 50% off with an appointment.
“We want all mothers in Sunnyside and Woodside to feel their best on this special day,” said Nieves.
Interested readers can call to make an appointment at 917-242-5961 or 718-786-8114.
For those who are interested in visiting on other days, Cris & Jason Beauty Studio offer manicures and pedicures for $15 from Monday through Friday, and $18 from Thursday through Sunday.
Cris & Jason Beauty Studio is open 7 days week from 10:00 am – 9:00 pm.

Best of luck ladies.
Why would disposable tools be available only upon request? Shouldn’t they be available regardless of request? It’s about proper safety and hygiene. One and done.
Does anyone know any legit massage places around here? Not one of those basement operations.
