May 4, 2016 Staff Report

Cris & Jason Beauty Studio, located at 46-27 Skillman Avenue, closed last week to renovate the salon.

“After 5 years, we wanted to upgrade the equipment and furniture to give it a modern look, and to provide new services for our clients,” said Nieves Guaman, who owns the salon with her sisters Marlene and Tanya Guaman.

The studio is divided into two rooms both with its own entrance from the sidewalk, one room specifically for hair styling and cuts, and the other for spa treatments and nails, which was the unit that was renovated.

The spa also has a private area for neck, back, and body massages.

The spa area now features new furniture that includes vibrating chairs with jet-streamed foot massage equipment. The interior walls have been painted and the decor changed.

Sunnyside resident Karen Sheim, who has been a client over the past three years, described the studio and renovations as  “a happy and colorful” upgrade.

The beauty salon provides haircuts, facials, professional makeup services, and full body waxing.

Guaman said that the renovation inspired them to make additional changes to their operations.

“We wanted to upgrade our sanitary practices as well, so we decided to purchase an autoclave device to sanitize all of our equipment before use,” she said. Autoclave devices are heating instruments used primarily in surgery rooms to disinfect tools, but which have also become a standard to use in nail grooming.

Hello

Why would disposable tools be available only upon request? Shouldn’t they be available regardless of request? It’s about proper safety and hygiene. One and done.
