Police close off 54th Street between Roosevelt and Skillman Avenues

A 34-year-old man was struck repeatedly in the head with a metal pipe in Woodside this morning after getting into an argument with his two attackers, police said.
The incident took place at 1:45 am Saturday when the men started fighting near Roosevelt Avenue and 54th Street, police said.
The victim, who police said is a Woodside resident, was found lying on the ground with lacerations to his head at 41-24 54th Street. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The police recovered the pipe on the scene.
One of the suspects was apprehended and is in custody, although has not been charged at this point. Another suspect fled the scene.
Police described that suspect who left the scene as an Hispanic male, wearing blue jeans, black shoes gray jacket

Rip. He shouldn’t have came out the store. Description for the 2nd guy is completely wrong. the neighborhood deserves better. all these young adults that are always in the street are bad kids. They are always loitering in front of 52nd street and skill man avenue and outside of patron deli by 43 avenue and 51st. On a nice day they’ll hang out in big groups at the local park wind miller park. These kids are influenced by the older guys/drug dealers. For example toasty, the local crackhead that has been in and out of jail repeatly. Loves to assault people and robs bikes for a living. You can find his old parents riding around on e-bikes. I know this because I’ve been assaulted by him and many other people have too. these young adults are young thugs. It is easy to notice them. They stick out like sore thumbs. Watch how they walk, talk, and their clothing. You’ll know they are degenerates. Just like you’ll know if a young man is respectful. Take my tips into considerations.

Bashing people with pipes is impolite. I think this criminal should be punished for his action. I know that’s controversial to say but I’m willing to put it out there.

It’s a shame no one deserves that but you have to look at the facts the man willingly came out of the store ready for an altercation he should of just stayed inside called the cops…simple who told the man to come out with a stick to provoke the youngster…also the video clearly shows the white kid telling the other kid to “let’s go” “let’s get out of here” …nothing’s wrong with the neighborhood I don’t understand why everyone is quick to jump the gun saying the neighbor is full with sick people..like that’s the world for you no matter where you are at there is always violence..its inescapable

Maybe you should watch the video again where it clearly says that he came out to defend his co-worker from these vicious individuals. We can clearly see that he has nothing in his hands when he comes out the store so he did not come out with a stick to provoke these animals but rather pulled it out once he was getting attack in self-defense!

While things are not perfect, things like this rarely happen in this neighborhood. I hope the man will make a full recovery. As a long-time Woodside resident, this is very sad.
I was wondering what was going on there this morning when the street was closed. I also pass by everyday to drop off my son at PS11. Hopefully the man recovers from critical condition.

Landlords have to stop just renting to just anyone. Please show some consideration to your neighbors and do the responsible thing and run checks on the people you are renting to. Stop renting to bums!!
Woodside is one of the calmest neighborhoods in Queens and you might never know who comes and goes in here. It could be someone from a different boro or who knows, what needs to be done is have police patrol the streets to prevent problems like this. Innocent people getting hurt for the wrong reasons.

Hahaah! Some NYPD are already the psychopaths with their wielding power! Besides, Neighborhood Watch are all volunteers from the local neighborhood so you can actually keep the change you pay in taxes. They get paid in the satisfaction that their neighborhood is respected.

Run-ins with NYPD and other PD’s across the nation have many more “George Zimmerman” results that the one specific GZ event. This includes white people.

The “calmest” (I assume you mean in reference to crime) neighborhoods in Queens are all in North East Queens Bayside, Douglaston, Whitestone, Beechurst, Little Neck, Douglas Manor, Auburndale, Malba, Flushing North..,you’re not even close.

You’re absolutely right. Somebody is renting apartments and commercial property to these creeps whether it’s Woodside. Astoria, Sunnyside. They need to shut down a couple of those skanky “bars” on Roosevelt as well.
When white people move into minority neighborhoods (which were often largely white a generation before) and make them decent places to live, whole communities get up in arms. When the situation is reversed, nobody cares. In either case, landlords care about only one thing: making more money with less effort. Whichever way they can do that, that is what they’ll do.
Most of these landlords don’t care because they don’t live here, they buy these properties, rent them and fill them up with people (whoever, they don’t care) and then let them just pay for the mortgage. People complain when there is new development, but with new development and higher rent, we get people who take care of the place they live in. Sure some folks refer to them as hipsters but they are just upset some of them can’t fool these hipsters.
