A fire broke out at a Laundromat on 43rd Avenue this morning that left the store’s interior in tatters.

The fire broke out inside Super Laundromat, located at 42-24 43rd Avenue, and spread between the ceiling and roof.

The FDNY arrived on the scene at 10:26 am and brought the fire under control by 11:11 am.

Fifty firefighters and 12 units were called to the location, according to the FDNY. There were no injuries.

The Laundromat was badly damaged by fire, smoke and water.

Smoke filled neighboring stores although those stores didn’t appear to sustain any damage.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

What’s the difference between a laundromat, laundrymat, laundermat and laundramat? Everyone of these spelling variations can be found through out the neighborhood.

43rd Avenue has some interesting apartment buildings with great lobbies especially on 41st Street. However, the stores are not so hot. This Avenue should be better developed and cared for.

The owner is kind of stubborn. She never wants to upgrade the machines but always ups the price of the machines. Maybe they were too old? I hope they investigate. Doesn’t seem like they had any regulations in that place.

All these suspicious fires in the neighborhood. Really makes you wonder. Looks like a good lot to demolish to build new apt buildings doesn’t it?

This place has always seemed cheap and kind of dingy. I hope there’s an investigation into whether they were following fire regulations.

Whether or not it was the Ritz has nothing to do with whether they followed safety regulations. Don’t forget that it was a building in the East Village that blew up in recent memory.

I wish it had been that nasty nasty liquor store on the corner. Bottles of Rabbit Ridge covered in layers of dust.

I agree that the store is old and could have been maintained better but that is no reason to wish misfortune upon others.

I get that the liquor store was old and fairly run-down but that’s no reason to wish misfortune upon others.

Don’t knock Bill’s Liquor– as their sign says, they’ve got the cheapest prices allowed by law. What’s not to like?

Yeah, so you can’t enjoy licking the outside of the bottle, right? Strange none of the wines fit for human consumption have dust on them.

Sad to see a local business sustain damage like this.
Most laundromats done have attendents, people wash and dry all sort of stuff in those machines, I wonder if this was caused by someone drying something flammable?
