Weeknight Closures of Midtown Tunnel’s Queens-Bound Tube Begin Tonight

Queens-bound motorists who plan to use the Queens Midtown Tunnel during the overnight hours are likely to be in for a slower trip over the course of the next 12 weeks.

Beginning tonight at 10:30 p.m., the Queens-bound tube of the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed during weekday overnight hours for 12 weeks of Sandy restoration work, according to the MTA.

Drivers will still be able to get to Queens using a single lane in the tube typically reserved for Manhattan-bound traffic only. This change will also restrict those driving into Manhattan to a single lane as well, according to the MTA.

The closures will take place between 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the closures will take place from 11 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Queens-bound tube closures may be suspended for certain major holidays and other events.

The MTA advises motorists to allow extra time or use an alternate route if possible.
