Neighborhood Bar to Throw Halloween Event with Mystery Guest

Oct. 29, 2015 By Staff Report

More than one year after The Jar Bar took over The Leitrim House, owner Jason Spratt wants to invite the community to celebrate Halloween with a special twist.

A promotional poster for the October 31 event sports drinks specials such as a 4-hour unlimited party option from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am, a beer & shot special for $5.00, as well as a $200 prize for best costume. However, the most mysterious detail is a guest appearance by someone dubbed “Miss Alternative USA.”

“We don’t want to say who it is, but most people in the neighborhood will be surprised,” said Spratt.

Jar Bar entranceThe Jar Bar, located at 45-06 48th Ave, has been in operation for about 18 months, and while it offers a new look, the owner claims it’s been successful at keeping former regulars as well as attracting new clientele with what he says are one-of-a-kind specials in Sunnyside.

“We have the longest running Monday through Friday Happy Hour, where we offer $2.50 pints of beer from noon to 7:00 pm, then late night 3 for $10 beers from midnight to 2:00 am on Sunday and Thursday.”

However, Spratt wants guests to know there’s plenty of activities for those looking to stay dry on Halloween, or any day of the year. A tour of the bar shows a multiplayer Big Buck Hunter 3D arcade and a Kiss Pinball Machine, as well as Giant Jenga available for patrons of all ages.

An outdoor beer garden that seats more than a dozen comfortably is visually accompanied by a mural designed by Sunnyside resident Peng Fan, who decorated the wall as a wedding present to his wife last Summer. Peng’s work can also be found in Brooklyn and China.

Sunnyside native “D Jay Reytovin” will be performing live beginning at 9:00 pm Halloween night. “He’s famous around here. Everybody knows him, so we expect a big turnout,” said bartender Alison Gibney.
