Bliss Bistro ‘Michelin Recommended’

The owner of Bliss Bistro, Alim Maruf, got word Wednesday that his restaurant was going to be recommended by Michelin in its 2010 guide. Maruf has run Bliss for over two years, after spending 20 years at Manhattan’s Park Bistro.

The recommendation reads:

Bliss Bistro…French

“Just a fifteen minute subway ride from midtown Manhattan, Sunnyside Gardens is a pretty little pocket of Queens with shady residential streets and lush courtyards. The commute must have looked pretty good to Alim Maruf, who packed his bags at Manhattan’s Park Bistro in order to transform the old American Bliss restaurant into this upscale bistro.

‘With its lovely garden and intimate dining room dressed in creamy whites and tables set for two, Bliss Bistro is as romantic as they come. The food matches, with glorious dishes like a frisee salad, tossed with silky duck confit and crunchy bacon; or fork-tender coq au vin, paired with a fluffy stack of mashed potatoes; or pillowy profiteroles, stuffed with vanilla ice cream bathed in rich chocolate.”

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
