A Woodside resident faces multiple charges for shooting two men, one fatally, in Sunnyside last month.

Gino Florencia, 31, who resided on 54th Street in Woodside, has been charged with murder, assault, and criminal-possession-of-a-weapon, police said.

The shooting took place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in front of 45-55 48th Street. Edison Vera, 25, died of a gunshot to the chest at the scene, while Miguel Llanos, 25, is recovering from gun shots to the torso and arm.

Florencia was originally picked up by Orlando police on Oct. 27 and then extradited to the 108 Precinct on Oct. 29.

I agree with Anonymous09 , it doesn’t give him the right to cut someone life short, and i hope he get’s a life sentence for what he did all he cares about is him and only him , he doesn’t care for the one’s who love him , i spoke to him the other day and the way he sound over the phone is like he didn’t do nothing wrong and he laugh’s like nothing and what got fucking mad the way he came out and said why r u crying over spolied milk and i have to think out my girl who’s life is in danger, he didn’t even think about his son, NO MAN THAT SAY’S HE LOVE HIS CHILD MORE THEN EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD WOULDN’T COME OUT AND SAY THAT HE IS A HEARTLESS PERSON AND PEOPLE LIKE SHOULD BE OFF THE STREETS FOR GOOD SO I HOPE HE ROTS IN JAIL FOR LIFE AND I KNOW HIS GIRL IS READING THIS , THIS IS THE KIND OF PERSON YOU WANT TO BE WITH THINK ABOUT YOURSELF CAUSE HIS LIFE IS OVER AND IF YOU WANT THAT LOAD OF DATING A MURDER, THINKG ABOUT THIS A MURDER IS MURDER AND WHAT MAKE YOU THAT HE WON’T THINK TWICE BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN!!!!!! THIS IS FROM A WOMEN TO ANOTHER WOMEN GIVING YOU ADVICE. SO CUT OFF THE LIFE LINE ON HIM…….

TO ANONYMOUS98.. I RESPECT YOU STAYING BY YOUR FRIENDS SIDE. BUT I KNEW EDISON VERY WELL. HE WAS TRYING TO CHANGE HIS LIFE AND GET THE FUCK UP OUT OF HERE!! HE WAS ALREADY STARTING TO MAKE MOVES. BUT IT DIDNT HAPPEN SOON ENOUGH. ITS SAD TO SEE THAT GINO DIDNT THINK ABOUT HIS WIFE AND SON FIRST!! I JUST WANT U TO KNOW THAT AT LEAST GINO IS STILL ALIVE!!!!! HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL AT LEAST GET TO SEE HIM, HUG HIM, CRY, LAUGH, HEAR HIS VOICE, TELL HIM THEY LOVE HIM!!!!! EDISON’S FAMILY WILL NEVER HAVE THAT AGAIN!!!!!! SO YES TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE A RIGHT… BUT IT DOESNT GIVE A MAN THE RIGHT TO CUT SOMONE’ LIFE SHORT!!

As i sit here and read everybody comment i am the only person who really know’s him , i see people are saying that the victims has it coming and that gino’s patince where tested but once again two wrong don’t make right, people just love running there mouth and blaming his parent, Gino has a every loving family and wife and son who always standing by his side, pointing at his parent like there at fault doen’t make it right, i told and plead him to move out of NYC , and now look at this ,it happen again in the same block that got him his first bid of 8 ys and look now a one and six months later . i went to I.S.125 in the early 90’s and yes the police should be round more offen and i know 48 st is know as new jack city . i stand by his side and for the Vera Family my thoughts and prayer are with you , i end this note with they are two side to a story.( and for those that say that they know what really happen and if you are his real friend they you should come out and tell the truth).

NO ONE IS SAYING THAT THE VICTIMS WERE SAINTS.. BUT.. IF GINO’S PATIENCE WAS TESTED SO MUCH, WHY NOT JUST FUCK THEM UP!! HE IS A BIG GUY!! SO HE COULDNT HANDLE THE EMOTIONS AND CHOSE TO PLAY GOD!!! HOW MANY PEOPLE LOOSE IT…. BUT DONT MURDER PEOPLE!! IF YOU CAN PULL A TRIGGER MORE THAN ONCE, THATS JUST PART OF YOUR NATURE!! REGARDLESS IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT WE THINK. THE GUY WHO COULDNT HANDLE HIS EMOTIONS WILL BE GOING AWAY FOR A LONG TIME!!

its crazy how everyone here wants to talk about how good people were… everyones born innocent & everyone does things to change that. everyone does their dirt & its on them how dirty they really get but no one ever knows how far a person will really go and with that said, maybe people should think twice before testing someones patience. someone might not be that extreme to be a killer but once buttons are pushed theres no telling what u might create.

come on people… we cant be here blaming him alone as if those 2 dingleberries were angels! do u people think he just flipped out & did it for no reason? maybe u should think about what they say, “EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON”.

unaware of what he was doing? was he sleep walking when he passed by the building and pulled the trigger? or did he think he was holding a candy bar instead of a gun? give me a break. im sure he was a “good guy” at one time, but he’s a murderer, plain and simple. that’s the problem w. our society – personal accountability has gone out the window. blame the parents, blame circumstances, blame anyone but the guy who got a gun and pulled the trigger.

this is what happens when bad parents who are not there for you cause. I knew gino for a long time. He was a good guy. I was shocked to here he was involved in a murder. My condolences to the family of Edison Vera. Gino was unaware of what he was doing. He must of did first, thought later.

wow that’s scary but good that they got him. btw, where was the address published? We live across the street from that house, and didn’t even know this guy lived there.

Glad they got this thug before he could get any further. However, it would probably help if the 108 patrolled that area once in a while. I probably see a patrol car go through the area once a week, if that, aside from the constant meal trips to Pio Pio.

Thanks to sunnysidepost for following this story, which didn’t really get a lot of coverage in the daily papers.

Gonna spend a long time regretting what he did. Like every night the cell doors close behind him. No more freedom

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
