The third annual Flicks in the Garden takes place Saturday night at Sunnyside Gardens Park.
The event, which kicks off at 6 pm and features vintage cartoons, is a family affair. The evening begins with children’s arts & crafts as well as ballet performed by the Sunnyside Ballet Studio.
Once the sun goes down, 50 minutes of vintage cartoons are scheduled to be screened, which include the following family-friendly titles:
- Betty Boop: Grampy’s Indoor Outing
- Betty Boop’s Crazy Inventions
- How’s Crops?
- Jack Frost
- Love in a Pond
- Molly Moo Cow & the Butterflies
- Pigs in a Polka
WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 (rain date: Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013)
6pm – 8pm, with films beginning at dusk

Archie Bunker is deemed racist too now, but it’s still one of the funniest shows…
Early cartoons were often very un-p.c. for sure but not necessarily racist. People were products of their time. We’re far too quick to label everything “hate.” Fifty years from now, ideologues will be nitpicking at the cartoons that are made today for not being in line with modern ideas and saying our generation was unenlightened and insensitive to this group or that group.
The 90’s cartoons were my favorite… Duck Tale, Rescue Rangers, Talespin, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats etc…
What? No Beavis and Butthead?
interactive kids ballet!? man, that sounds painful. these vintage cartoons are pretty strange now, there’s subtle racist undertones throughout them. Everytime they show these free things i kinda cringe a little. theyre a little creepy now.
What happened to the Sunnyside Film Festival? That was really good.
