Sunnyside Shines Upgrades Its Website

Sept. 1, 2013 By Christian Murray

Sunnyside Shines has revamped and upgraded its website.

The redesigned site, which went live today at http://www.sunnysideshines.org, aims to help small businesses, residents, and visitors learn more about what Sunnyside has to offer.

Sunnyside Shines, which was created to improve the business district in 2008, plans to use the site to promote events, initiatives and local businesses with a more user-friendly and contemporary interface.

The redesigned website aims to take advantage of Sunnyside Shines’ twitter and Facebook accounts. It will also hosts individual pages for each business located within the district.

“We are so pleased with the new website,” said Rachel Thieme, executive director of Sunnyside Shines, “and we are extremely grateful to the New York City Department of Small Business Services,” which funded the project.

“Having such a user-friendly site will allow us to better promote the vibrant businesses and activities happening in Sunnyside,”  Thieme said.

Unfortunately, we have many slobs living among us. I see people casually toss their rubbish on the sidewalk without a second thought. Perhaps that’s the norm in some third-world dumps where they came from but I would hope we’re a bit more sanitary here.

Full trash cans are no excuse. If I have a piece of trash to throw away and the can is full, I just hold onto it till I find one that isn’t.

What’s up with the residents of Sunnyside throwing litter on the ground? I was at the Jersey shore last week- no trash bins anywhere. You take your garbage home with you.

Why do we expect the government to provide these services and then, in the same breath, complain about our taxes? Whereever there are trash bins, the area around them is also filthy.

Look at the sidewalk in front of the bank on the south side of QB where the taco truck parks every night. It is a disgrace. Is the city supposed to provide trash pick-up and sidewalk cleaning for the patrons of this “dining establishment”? Apparently.
