The police have released the name of the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a motorcycle rider when he was crossing Queens Boulevard early Sunday morning.
Police said the victim was 50-year-old Claudio Huerta, who lived at 43-08 40th Street in Sunnyside. Huerta was announced dead on the scene.
Police say a 33-year old motorcycle rider was heading eastbound on Queens Boulevard at about 4 a.m. when he hit Huerta, who was attempting to cross the street northbound on 44th Street.
The motorcycle driver was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with severe head injuries. The police did not have any updates on his condition.
The police said they are still investigating the incident.

There is always fault on both the drivers & the pedestrians. Time and time again I see pedestrians jay walk against the red light, while a car is close proximity to them. Even the black wrought iron fences that the city installed there under the El doesn’t stop them & now they are more brazen by scaling the outside of the fence. On the other hand, motorists go above the allowed 30mph speed limit. Both are equally at fault.

Remember, we are all a moment’s distraction or lapse of judgement from the same fate while crossing the street.
Let’s hope the motorcyclist recovers.
