Stray Vintage, the popular second hand shop located at 48-09 Skillman Ave., held a record fair on Sunday, drawing more than 100 attendees.
Many customers spent long periods of time riffling through boxes of records that were supplied by a number of vendors. Meanwhile, in the background, soul music was playing on the turntable—while beverages from Aubergine Cafe and Murphys Pub were being served.
This was the first record fair put on by Stray. “We’ve been to other fairs and figured we’d give it a try ourselves,” said Dan Glasser, who owns the store with his wife, Tara.
Dan and Tara reached out to their contacts—and then put out a Facebook blast. “Folks came from Manhattan and Brooklyn…it was overwhelming,” Dan said.
However, some participants were more local.
Liz Shofner, a 46th St. resident, came to browse through the boxes of records, which were located in front of the store. However, she ended up buying a large plate. “I just saw it and had to buy it.”
Tara described the event as a big success. We certainly got way more [customers] than a usual Sunday afternoon.”
“We’ll be doing this again: maybe in September,” Dan said.

Shit. I wish I had known about this. I would have liked to pick up the new Thomas Dolby record. Damn.
This was WAY before my time, but they had the classic Patsy Cline record “Crazy”. Made me think of a certain person who posts on this forum. My Mom always loved Patsy Cline. Can’t wait to see you again in September!
I hope Stray Vintage does this again soon. I had a fun time thumbing through old records and was able to find a real gem, “Who Let The Dogs Out” by the Baha Men.

this site really needs an EDIT option, get with the times man.
You know what Sunnyside should have? a gigantic screen display with ADS right by that hideous Dunnyside middle finger . This is where people can freely post events on Sunnyside through an approved representative. This way the neighborhood can be aware of mundane things like stores telling an old technology that only Hipsters and Hippies enjoy.
This story definitely has a certain spin to it.
It’s too bad the owners of the store didn’t think to do a bit more than post about it on Facebook. It sounds like it worked, but it is a pity that the blog that covers the neighborhood is covering this sale *after* it happened rather than letting readers know about it before. Or maybe it’s on purpose. After all, this coverage before the sale would be what many would consider “advertising” and not editorial coverage. (Sales ain’t exactly news.)
And I thought it was just a fair that had a record turnout. Hahahahaaa! All the best to Tara and Dan all the same 🙂

They advertised it on their Facebook page, and also the owners informed me when I was in the store a week prior. I picked up 8 amazing albums for $32. I really hope they do another one sooner than September. It was really an amazing selection.
