Fire Strikes Woodside Apartment

A fire erupted inside an apartment building on 48th Avenue last night.

The fire took place on the third floor at 46-05 48th Ave. The occupants of apartment 3F, where the fire took place, were not home at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters from Ladder 116 were the first to respond. Chief Frank Leeb of Battalion 49 said, “The fire caused moderate damage since it was contained to the room of origin. However, there was some smoke damage to the other apartments.”

Five firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to Elmhurst Hospital. The injuries were heat related.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
