For those Sunnysiders who are still looking for a quick, free photo with Santa—you’re in luck. Santa will be in the area again this Saturday and Sunday.
Sunnyside Shines, the local business improvement group, has added an extra weekend to its second annual “Santa Pic-Stop.” The addition, in part, reflects the large turnout received so far this season.
“Everyday we have been getting about 60 families coming in and that is significantly more than last year,” said James Bray, the executive director of Sunnyside Shines.
Each family receives a free photo and folder of Santa. The photo is also sent electronically.
However, not all pictures have been of families. One lady, for example, brought her dog along and requested a shot with Santa.
Sunnyside Shines, however, is asking participants to make a small donation to support this neighborhood’s food pantries. To date, a little over $900 has been raised. The final amount is expected to be split between the St Raphael and St Teresa food pantries.
This “Santa Pic-Stop” has taken place on Saturdays and Sundays since Nov. 25. However, it has been extended to Dec. 17 and 18, between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. The event is located at the Sunnyside Shines office at 45-56 43rd Street.
On Saturday (Dec. 17), the PS 150 choir will arrive at the Sunnyside Shines office at around 12:30pm and sing Christmas carols.
Sunnyside Shines said it would like to thank Joe Pagano for his connections to P.S. 150 that has made Santa possible this season.
