Parents and children at IS 125 in Woodside received a large batch of school supplies on Wednesday, the result of the 2nd annual school supply drive established by Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer’s office.
Due to the difficult economic climate, residents were ask by the councilman to donate a host of different school supply items, such as: pencils, folders, binders, loose-leaf paper, graphing paper, notebooks, calculators, highlighters, rulers, protractors, glue sticks, crayons, lunchboxes, backpacks or any other school-type products.
This year, Van Bramer’s drive received over 4,000 items that were donated by community members. The items were dropped off at five libraries throughout District 26 and his district office at 47-01 Queens Boulevard.
“I am so proud to live in a community where everyone chips in and does their part to better their surroundings and enhance the lives of all of our children. I would like to thank all of those who donated to the drive.

It’s sad that parents can’t afford to supply their children with necessary school supplies. I’m grateful to the community who came out to support the children. How can I help now? I didn’t know of the drive.
