Young Boy Accused of Stealing Jumbo Teddy Bears From Flower Shop with Aid of Teen Girl

Aug. 2, 2017 By Nathaly Pesantez

A teen girl and a young boy are accused of working together to steal stuffed toys from a flower shop on Greenpoint Avenue.

The owner of Flowers by Giorgie, the flower shop on 45-17 Greenpoint Avenue, claims that on August 1 at around 9:15 p.m., a teen girl was distracting staff inside the shop while a young boy, believed to be between eight-to-10 years of age, pulled down two stuffed toys toward the front of the store and walked out, a Facebook post by the shop reads.

Surveillance video posted on Facebook shows the young boy reaching for and grabbing a jumbo plush panda first and cradling it on the side of his body. Immediately after, he jumps up to grab another jumbo white plush bear. Another shared video shows the young boy leaving the shop, lugging the two stuffed animals nearly his size on either side of his body.

The shop says the teenage girl left shortly after.

Sandra Calle, the 25-year-old daughter of store owner Giorgie Calle, says the stuffed panda was valued at $125, while the white one was priced at $85.

“It happened really quick,” she said. “She came straight to the back where the counter is and began to ask questions to my dad.”

Giorgie noticed that the young boy entered the shop with the teen girl at around the same time, but could not confirm that they were together when he fled the scene first while the teen girl stayed.

When he went to the back of the store to check surveillance video, the girl had already left.

Giorgie is baffled by the incident. “Do they know where their kids are and what they’re doing?” he said.

The shop says they have already notified police, and are asking for the surveillance photos and video to be shared, which have been viewed over 650 times as of this morning.

Yes teach your kids, however I do not agree with store owners posting videos and pictures of young children that appear under the age of 10. I agree that parents with young children have the right to discipline like some have stated above for getting in trouble. But that is something private and does not involve public shaming. How would you feel if next week its for a pack of gum? a flower? a soda? Putting wanted signs for 8 year old suspects when an older female was also involved is wrong. Find the female and seek out the boys parents through her. That is the right thing to do or say on a post instead of saying how expensive your teddy bears were and asking for the public’s help to bring them to justice.

And he’s wearing a real silk tie thats 6″ too long, WITH my signature, once again, in gold thread running in the bias, as any real tie correctly made should be.

Ahead of his time

Very well planned. 8-10 yrs old? You would think this would be the mind of a 12yr old. Could be a mastermind criminal in the making

This is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe people would defend this vermin. A premeditated robbery and some of you think they don’t understand what they’re doing. It starts like this and only becomes worse.

A thief is a thief no matter what age. Stop babying these losers. If they stole from my store I’d take care of their filthy butts.

They should block the kids face. He’s a boy and made a mistake. I’m sure we all did something stupid in the past. This one mistake could stick with him all his life. 2nd chance for all. Make him clean the store or something. Teach him to work.

Remove him from the care and control of the person that was with him. Next time he may be with a different caretaker but he can still be identified before he gets into further trouble.

Miss the point much? Stuffed animals are given as gifts with flowers ALL the time. It’s about a store being robbed not if you would buy a stuffed animal with flowers…..

They should really remove the picture of the young boy or block out his face on their FB post.

The should really remove the video too or block the child’s face out. I just saw they had one.

Why? The kid is a thief. If he comes into your business you should be able to identify him.

Post says he is between 8-10 yrs old. Children under ten years old do not yet have the levels of moral judgment to understand the underlying reasons for rules and laws. We do not know what internal or external pressures the child is facing. There’s plenty of behavioral science establishing that harsh treatment of young offenders is counterproductive. Even one day of unnecessary detention can have profoundly negative impacts on children’s mental and physical health.

That is the biggest crock of shit that I’ve read on this site, and that’s saying something.

Last time I stole something was when I was 7, a bazooka joe. My mother found out, placed my hand on a chopping board and slammed a butcher’s knife down right next to the hand that stole. She did not have to say a word for me to understand that stealing is wrong. So b.s. on your theory of kids not being able to understand moral judgement. Unless your kid has a mental disability, they do know, you just gotta show them. If you don’t show kids there are consequences to stealing, they’ll grow up believing it’s not that big of a deal.

Here is the Truth.

You are right that children don’t have the same understanding as an adult. BUT a 8 year old knows it’s wrong to steal. They understand what is theirs and what is not theirs. “Mine” starts at the age of 2 1/2. He didn’t steal food. Him and the young teen stole 2 teddy bears from a local business because they wanted it. Negative impact on the community. Negative impact on the children who have to interact with a boy their age that steals. Do you think he (or the teenager) has more respect for people their age?

don

@anon…how would you of felt as a 7 year old boy if the store owner posted surveillance video and pictures of you stealing a “bazooka joe” on FB and sites. What would your parents think? Do you think it would effect your future? Those are difficult questions to answer when you are that young. We all sometimes make stupid mistakes and bad choices when we are young. Things can follow you for a lifetime nowadays because of the internet especially if your name was printed after you were caught.

My building has two large lawns, not accessible to dogs and much loved by squirrels and robins.

Get those punks. They took a gold plated diamond encrusted bear valued at $125, and another at $85. These werent just $5 bears!

Here is the Truth.

I am sure you would feel the same if your boss took $125 and next week $85 from your paycheck. After all you don’t mind losing the $210 from your income. Better yet please donate it to the shop so they can cover their bills this month if it’s no big deal. OHHH is it only a big deal if someone steals something from you?

Southside Johnny

Of course, you’re missing the point. It’s not about the theft but the “value” of what was stolen. Maybe stuffed animals are this expensive on Rodeo Drive but this is Greenpoint Avenue. What do you the actual cost to replace these items will be for the store owner? Probably both items will cost considerably less than the amount stated in the article, maybe 50 bucks, tops. Such exaggeration ruins the story and makes the victim look greedy.
