Two Woodside men charged with placing skimming devices on multiple ATMs, possessed 300 forged credit cards: DA

Oct. 9, 2017 By Tara Law

Two Woodside men were charged last week after police uncovered their ATM skimming scheme and found them in possession of hundreds of forged credit cards, skimming devices and nearly $20,000 in cash, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.

Bogdan Stoica, 36, and Janos Mihalka, 36, who both live on 45th Street in Woodside, were allegedly caught on video between July and September at seven banks installing and, in some instances, attempting to remove skimming devices from the ATMs, according to the Queens DA.

The skimming devices, which read bank card numbers and can obtain PIN numbers, were then copied onto blank credit and debit cards.

The police have footage of the men trying to remove skimming devices at Santander bank on Union Turnpike on July 20, 2017; TD Bank on Hillside Avenue on July 21, 2017; TD Bank on Northern Boulevard on August 2, 2017; at a TD Bank on Metropolitan Avenue on August 3, 2017; and at the Teachers Federal Credit Union on August 17, 2017, according to the Queens DA.

The men allegedly repeated the skimming scheme at a Capital One bank on Queens Boulevard on August 3rd, September 18th and September 20th of this year.

Stoica and Mihalka allegedly used a forged card to access a woman’s TD Bank account and withdrew $383 and $363 from her savings on Aug. 17.

The police raided Stoica and Mihalka’s 45th Street Woodside residence and seized 300 forged credit and debit cards, nearly $20,000 cash and skimming devices.

The men face a plethora of charges, including second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of forgery devices, and first- and second-degree identity theft.

Bail was set at $1.5 million bond or $1 million cash and the men ordered to return to court on Oct. 17. The defendants face up to seven years in prison.

“These kinds of credit card schemes cost hard-working individuals not just money, but time and aggravation trying to remove the damage they cause to their credit scores. This stealth thievery will not be tolerated in Queens County,” said Queens DA Richard Brown in a statement.

Hello friends i’ve been reluctant in purchasing this blank ATM card i heard about online because everything seems too good to be true, but i was convinced & shocked when my friend at my place of work got the card from ghost hackers & we both confirmed it really works, without delay i gave it a go. Ever since then I’ve been withdrawing $5000 daily from the card & the money has been in my own account. So glad i gave it a try at last & this card has really changed my life financially without getting caught, its real & truly works though its illegal but made me rich!! A shame the man from Bangladesh was deported despite his hard work and long time residence here and these fools are criminals and they are still here (highly assuming they are also immigrants)

The big criminals have figured out that the best way to rob a bank is to own one. These guys obviously didn’t get the message! Law enforcement doesn’t seem to be too interested in pursuing white collar crime cases beyond the politically motivated hysteria of the hour.

Now I know where my card was skimmed! Three times they got me!! Shame on TD Bank for not having better security. I’ve moved my $ to a more secure bank!

Why is it necessary to bring up their nationality? I’m of Romanian descent.
This issue is not about that! The issue is about what they did!!!! Be part of the solution in this country, not the problem!

Sunnyside not Woodside, Skippy!

45 Street is Sunnyside…..NOT Woodside. All criminals come from Snowflakeside. I wonder if these guys were part of the notorious Grape Soda Barbara Gang. El Loco and Oran Juice Jones have been hot on their trail past few months. Barbara is the head of that organization with Al from Sunnyside and Super Neil at her side.

Once you go past 47th Avenue (toward the expressway) it becomes Woodside. Get a map!

The 11377 zip code is Woodside but if you look at maps r5th street is defined as Sunnyside. Only gor mail purposes call Woodside.

Woodside begins on the east side of the cemetery in the south side and beyond about 48-52nd St on the north side depending on which cross street you’re on.
