Sunnyside “Santathon” Taking Place This Weekend to Raise Money for Charity

Santhathon 2017

Dec. 11, 2017 By Nathaly Pesantez

Sunnyside bars will be hosting a “Santathon” this weekend for the sixth year in a row to raise money for kids this holiday season.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Dec. 16 and go until late, where a lineup of neighborhood bars near and on Queens Boulevard will offer drink specials to participants who are encouraged to bring on their holiday A-game with Santa Claus costumes.

Participants can buy $10 wrist bands at the nine participating bars for $5 drink specials. A raffle card will also be distributed, with a top prize of a $500 bar tab for those dressed in their “best Santa attire”.

The money raised during the Santathon, a play on the annual SantaCon pub crawl, will go toward purchasing toys and warm clothing for children via local charities like The Floating Hospital’s Candy Cane Lane.

The nine bars are also currently accepting new toys and monetary donations up until Christmas. Check with the bar of your choice on the best way to drop off your donations.

Lat year’s Santathon saw $3,000 go toward buying toys and warm clothing for kids through six charity programs, including the Queen of Angels in Sunnyside, Hour Children in LIC, and the Mission Church in Corona.

The participating bars, part of the Sunnyside Boulevard Bars group formed in 2012, are:

Arriba Arriba Sunnyside
The Courtyard Ale House
Maggie Mae’s Bar
Bar 43
Ida’s Nearabout
The Gaslight
McGuinness’s Saloon
SideTracks
Jack’s Fire Dept

Charity help has always been considered as done for humanity. One can provide charity help through different ways, such as by donating clothes, food, water, etc. Everyone should deal with charity programs in order to help the humanity and work for a good cause. I got to know about mission humanitaire(http://www.mission-humanitaire-afrique.org/) for helping needy people through charity from one of my friends for helping them which is rich in mankind.

Sad that folks want to sanitize Sunnyside’s Santathon. It’s not like it’s a satanic seance! Nor is it the sloppy stinkers of Santacon … I say bring it on. Tidings to all.

its funny that this is all about drinking when probably more than anything else its dealing with alchoholic parents that I would say is the number one issue for young kids. Yeah, it sounds like a great ideas for a bunch of adults to get drink specials all night, get drunk off their azzes, pass out and sleep all the next day.

How about you stay sober and do something nice with your kids instead.
