Skillman Avenue Restaurant Week planned, takes place March 22-April 2

Restaurants on Skillman Avenue are planning to celebrate the warmer weather with a week of food and drink specials.

A coalition of Skillman restaurants will host the first ever “Spring on Skillman” restaurant week at the end of the month, offering a two-course meal for under $20 at a selection of 13 different restaurants.

“We normally do bar or pub crawls this time of year, but we decided to do something different that could involve all the restaurants on Skillman this year,” explained Jean Clancy, owner of Claret Wine Bar and one of the organizers of the event.

Clancy said that she is hopeful that people will try restaurants and bars that they wouldn’t normally go to and to take the opportunity to experience the large variety of businesses and places to go on Skillman.

The restaurant week will run from March 22 to April 2, and includes cuisines ranging from Himalayan to Japanese to the more traditional gastropub fare, along with many other options.

Each restaurant will offer a two-course meal for $19.10, to celebrate the establishment of Skillman Avenue in 1910.

There will also be other specials determined by each individual restaurant, including drink specials and $4 Kronenbourg beers, because the company is sponsoring the event.

The Skillman restaurant week does not aim to take the place of the annual Sunnyside restaurant week put on each fall by Sunnyside Shines, the local BID, Clancy said.

“This event is about improving our little corner of the neighborhood and is a way to promote the businesses on Skillman to the community,” Clancy said.

New szechuan is filthy and better watch what you ask for. Look out for the sicko delivery guy. Hes nuts. Go read the yelp reviews. They are true

Dawa has an amazing fried chicken sandwich and TJ has great rice dishes. You just don’t know.

Sigh. I guess they’re at least trying. But most of these places are just okay. There’s really no “destination” restaurant that compels me to eat out. I mean, if I’m paying $15 for a mixed drink, it better be midtown and not Claret Wine Bar.
