Sik Gaek, the Korean BBQ and seafood grill in Woodside, has been closed by the Department of Health.

A notice on the door of the restaurant, located at 49-11 Roosevelt Ave., reads “closed by order of the commissioner of health and mental hygiene.” It is dated Oct. 2.

An Aug. 25 inspection found five critical violations at the restaurant, according to city data. One of them is inadequate personal cleanliness, with an outer garment of an employee “soiled with possible contaminant”. Hair restraints were also not worn in an area where food is prepared.

Other critical violations include unprotected food from potential sources of contamination, cold food stored at over 41 degrees Fahrenheit, improperly stored sanitized equipment or utensils, and wiping cloths soiled or not stored in sanitizing solution. A total of 29 points were recorded.

Sik Gaek opened in 2010, and is one of the few places in New York City that serves san-nakji, or live octopus, which has brought crowds to the restaurant and some controversy by animal rights activist groups. The owner also has a Sik Gaek restaurant in Flushing.

This was Baba Booeys favorite place to dine. Oran Juice Jones also signed his last big record deal while eating here with El Loco and the execs from Sony records. Sad to see such a great place bite the dust.

There’s always dirty muck poured in the gutter every night when I walk by the place and filthy employees smoking out front. Look at its location seriously next to a carpet place and taxi garage how bad can it get.
This place needs to close for good. JVB get your cape on and go save us

Don’t judge a book by its cover… I guess where they prepared the actual food wasn’t ?

One of the more disgusting restaurants that you’ll ever see. My ma and I didn’t approve.
