Cathy Nolan (D) was re-elected to represent  the NY state assembly district 37 seat Tuesday night, in a decisive victory over her rival John K Wilson (R).

The victory came as little surprise in a heavily Democratic district, which includes most of Sunnyside. Nevertheless, Nolan, the incumbent, said, “I feel very grateful. It’s very humbling.”

She said her active involvement in the community– from dealing with senior issues, to graffiti to troubled bars/clubs – was rewarded by her constituents.

Wilson could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, Michael Gianaris (D), who currently serves in the Assembly representing much of Astoria, proved far too strong for his rival Jerome Tina (R) to become the NY state senator to represent district 12, which includes Sunnyside.

The seat was left vacant after state senator George Onorato (D) retired after serving 27 years in office.

In a statement, Gianaris said:  “I am grateful to the residents of Sunnyside for choosing me to represent them in the State Senate. Throughout my life, I have spent a lot of time enjoying all that the neighborhood has to offer and I am very much looking forward to being Sunnyside’s voice in the State Senate. Together, we will work to reform state government, create jobs, and improve educational opportunities.”

@Tony

Really? Then what’s that term limits law that Bloomberg repeals and reinstates as it suits him? What’s that law that limits the president to two terms?
