Motorcyclist arrested after crashing his bike in Woodside and leaving his passenger on street

A passenger on a motorcycle was left critically injured on a Woodside street Saturday after the rider lost control of the bike while speeding before running on foot from the scene of the accident, police say.

Luis Ortega, 24, of Jackson Heights, was riding eastbound on Broadway at about 4:15 am, when fell off his bike causing his passenger to hit a stopped livery cab, police said.

Police tracked down Ortega based off his license plate and arrested him at 12 pm that same day.

He was charged with driving an unregistered motorcycle without a license or insurance, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ortega faces up to four years in prison if convicted. His bail was set at $10,000 and he is schedule to return to court on June 2.
