Ecuadorian Restaurant Opens on Queens Boulevard

Jan. 22, 2018 By Nathaly Pesantez

An Ecuadorian restaurant has opened on Queens Boulevard, straddling the Sunnyside and Long Island City border.

Rincon Melania, the name of the restaurant, opened late December, and is located at 35-19 Queens Blvd.

Menu items include a variety of traditional Ecuadorian dishes, like guatita (tripe stew), fritada con mote (fried pork and hominy), llapingachos (potato patties), and a variety of soups, meats, and seafood platters served with rice.

Prices for main meals go from $13 to $22, and daily lunch specials are posted on the restaurant’s Instagram and Facebook pages.

The restaurant is owned by Lucila Melania Dutan, who helped run the former Rincon Latino at 48-18 Skillman Ave. before it closed in 2012 after approximately 20 years. Her sons are now helping her run the new restaurant.

Dutan says they are close to obtaining a liquor license, and should offer a full bar in weeks time.

The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, but will soon open for dinner every day. The restaurant is also closed on Sundays for the time being.

Is the 5 pm closing Monday to Thursday correct? I cannot imagine a restaurant on Qns Blvd relying on lunch time customers to succeeding. I would be willing to sample the venue but weeknight dining for us is usually no earlier than 6:30 pm.

Yes it’s correct. No mistake here. The restaurant has a policy, its to close for dinner. What an idiot

Actually looks pretty nice inside and Ecuadorian food is pretty good if you have never tried it. Hope they do well.

That is a bad spot all businesses there have gone under. If they can hold out for 2 1/2 years maybe it will take off after they finish the glass tower building on the corner of Qns Blvd and 38th street which they say will house two movie theaters. Additionally the community homeless shelter being built across the street on the former site of VG Nicols furniture store next to La Quinta Inn should bring in a nice hardy group of customers to the restaurant. If they serve up buffet style rice and beans with platanos, pork grinds or meat in salsa at around $7.50 a plate they will pack them in. Good luck.
