DA: BMW Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase through Sunnyside, Pointing Gun at Cops

Dec. 21, 2017 By Tara Law

A 22-year-old man was arrested earlier this month after leading the police on a high-speed chase through Sunnyside and pointing a gun at an officer, according to court records.

Kevin Giraldo-Cuesta, 22, of Averne, allegedly smashed his BMW into a police cruiser after running a red light while making a hard-left turn from 39th Street onto Northern Boulevard at around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 13, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.

Giraldo-Cuesta, who was speeding, hit the front right bumper of the police cruiser. He then made a hasty U-Turn on Northern Boulevard and fled at a high rate of speed while being pursued by police.

Giraldo-Cuesta allegedly drove down several residential streets at around 80 mph in a 25 mph speed zone, police said. He made several turns at high speed and ran multiple stop signs until he got stuck in traffic, according to the District Attorney’s office.

When a police officer got out of his vehicle and approached his BMW, Giraldo-Cuesta pointed a gun at the officer through the front windshield, according to police.

Giraldo-Cuesta sped off again and abandoned the car on 41st street between 50th Avenue and Queens Midtown, police say.

Giraldo-Cuesta turned himself in to police at the 108 Precinct in Long Island City on Dec. 14 at 1 a.m.

He has been charged with menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and multiple motor vehicle violations.

The police officer that was hit was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell and treated for neck and back pain, according to the NYPD.

Just glad it wasn’t my friend Oran Juice Jones’ 74 Caddy Eldorado. That’s a bad ass ride. He even has Lily’s name pinstriped on the passenger door from when he dated her circa 1975. He even picked her up one night in 86 in that car after she closed up the place and they went to see the Mets win the World Series over at Shea. Of course he had VIP parking.

@Symp- How ignorant.!! How jealous can one loser be? A person whose jealousy and resentment overrides their sense of decency, to condone and rejoice in crime committed against another human being needs therapy. I guess it’s just easier to allow yourself to be bitter and angry than to improve yourself and raise yourself to the socioeconocal level and standard of the stock broker you scorn. Remember somebody may wish ill will towards you because you may have something they don’t.

Don’t tell Alice to relax. Its time to call everyone on their ignorant behavior. People need to be told when their words or action are just out of line.

Are you kidding me? That’s not even the owner of the car and I doubt Kevin even owns a gun I was in middle school with him

Just because something’s a law doesn’t make it smart, effective or morally valuable.

On the other hand, driving like a !@#% deserves a solid punishment, not even to mention hurting and endangering people.
