50-unit development to go up in Woodside

31-19 56th Street

Feb. 21, 2017 Staff Report

A local developer is looking to put up a new building in Woodside that will include nearly 50 residential units as well as a supermarket, daycare facility, and other commercial spaces.

According to a permit filed with the building department last week, Queens-based developer Cheung Kiu plans to build a four-story, 64,472 square foot building at 31-19 56th Street in Woodside.

The plans show that the development would have 40,099 square feet of residential space, 18,711 square feet of commercial space, and 5,662 square feet of community space, with 47 apartments on the upper floors and retail and offices on the lower levels.

Kiu plans to build an attended below ground parking garage with 68 spots on the site, according to the plans.

The first floor will be occupied by a variety of businesses. There will be a supermarket, a daycare facility for kids between two and six years old, a Laundromat and a beauty salon, according to the plans.

The second floor will have a combination of apartments and medical office space, as well as 28 more parking spaces, and the third and fourth floor will be exclusively residential.

The third floor will also have an outdoor rooftop area for residents of the building.

how about a nice health food store and a high end coffee shop and a nice eatery. The other option sounds like a complete nightmare….way to dump on what could be a nice change.

I love these people who move to NY and then complain it’s overpopulated, overdeveloped. It’s NY if you want quiet and water parks stop being so cheap and move to the island.

Good riddance

I like it, good idea. Especially since its not in ssgardens and near the fool sir walter raleigh. He lives here for like 5 minutes and property values went down so its a good idea

U MART
It’s a dirty supermarket. They treat the cashiers like shit. The Chinese who work there are rude. The guys that work behind the fish counter go outside and smoke and never wash their hands. Why the hell would anyone want to SUNBATHE on the roof with rats all over the AMTRAK tracks 50 feet above?
The traffic during construction will be a NIGHTMARE!

A BAD IDEA
This is worst idea I’ve ever heard of. The place is a dump as it is. It would be nice for them to clean it up but certainly not to have apartments! The traffic will be horrendous (we have enough with Honda next door), the building will be right next to the roaring and tooting of the Amtrak over top, and if the owner doesn’t mind paying the women that work in U Mart less than minimum wage and no heat in the winter, what makes you think this new construction will be any better. We must boycott! WE DO NOT NEED THIS BUILDING IN WOODSIDE!

Wonder what will happen when planes are flying LOW and LOUD, every 30 seconds for up to twenty hours a day! Right in the flight path!! They can tickle the feet of the passengers from their roof!

I like the idea of underground parking- that should be mandatory these days. Using the roof for this way also sounds nice. I wish the roof on my building wasn’t off limits. It would be nice to have a place to hang out that not on a busy street/sidewalk.

Johnny! Wake up and smell the coffee bro!
This place is a dump!
AMTRAK is directly over the roof!
Sunbathe? Unless you like having a martini with a big, fat RAT I think not.

DISLIKE , 31st avenue is too busy as it is traffic wise, especially in this particular area, get ready to shake hands with people passing on amtrack they will be right on top of you, also a few steps away from a very busy honda car service center. If this developer has any connections to UMart really dislike, employers in that store are unfriendly, rude as it is, don’t need more of that kind .Abusy school route for many , bad idea. Hope this does not happen

They don’t care if people actually thrive there or if the neighborhood is improved. They just want the money. We are “units” not people.

Thats nowhere near a 50 unit building, you need at least 4 more floors. Who the hell drew this thing!?

And what about the Amtrak train tracks that are right next to it? And the rat population by the tracks?

Get rid of the child care center and itll be great. Good area. Noisy kids and double parking parents will ruin it

My building is. Cheap, thin walls, pipes, etc. I can hear a pin drop in my neighbors apartment. Just like the ones on Queens Blvd near 63rd street above the Deals and Dunkin Donuts. No wonder people move in and out so much, looks great from the outside, but once you’re in, FORGET IT!
