Most other parts of the neighborhood have seen improvement, Furthermore, Esparks (now Avenue Coffee House) moved in and anchored one of the corners of the block, while Bank of America is supposed to anchor the other. Furthermore, the florist is still there.

But then when I came back from my vacation, I found a thrift shop in the middle of the block. Not a sign of a thriving neighborhood. Perhaps I’m being a snob/jerk!

I’m disappointed by Maloney’s decision not to run (or the Democratic party’s pressure telling her to withdraw).

She has done a lot of good in the House of Representatives and would do even better in the US Senate. She helped frame the legislation that clamped down on the credit card industry’s greedy fees and poorly disclosed interest payments. She also asked some tough (and educated) questions of some of the nation’s leading banking CEOs following the bailouts and excessive bonuses.

Gillibrand Rival Reportedly Won’t Run in Primary

WASHINGTON — Representative Carolyn B. Maloney is expected to announce today that she has changed her mind and will not enter the primary race against Kirsten E. Gillibrand, New York’s newly appointed senator.

A person close to Mrs. Maloney, a Democrat from Manhattan, said she made her decision not to run after days of agonizing over the fact that running meant she would have to leave her current job at a point when she had significant seniority in Congress.

“It’s been a tough decision for her,” said the Maloney associate who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter.

Mrs. Maloney’s decision clears the path for Ms. Gillibrand, who Gov. David A.
It came after an intense effort by Democrtic leaders, including President Obama, to nudge potential challengers out of the race out of concerns that a bruiding primary battle would have weakened Ms. Gillibrand against a formidable Republican challenge in the general election.

Democratic leaders from New York to Washington reasoned that a primary race would deplete the financial resources of the eventual Democratic nominee nd subject him or her to attacks from fellow Democrats that Republicans could later employ.

The policy makes sense on one level and causes problems on another. I have visited the projects in the past and have been intimidated by large, half-starved and untrained dogs. I would hate to think what it would be like for children.

But here’s the problem. I bought a puppy and was promised it would weigh no more than 15lbs. The “male” dog just didn’t stop growing– a Kobe Byrant of dogs. Its 27lbs and lean. I guess I would have to starve it to make sure it got in below the 25lb weight limit.

In addition, the new policy bans any dog that weighs more than 25 pounds.

So are the dozens of people who have called the ASPCA for advice in recent weeks, unsure about whether they can keep their beloved dogs.

According to Bresch, who obtained the statistics, more than 100 of these dogs would no longer be allowed into those homes because of the new weight and breed restrictions.

On Saturday there were two fairs in Sunnyside. One was in the Gardens and the other on Greenpoint Ave. One was very wholesome and the other, well, was filled with women in skimpy tank tops.

The one in the Gardens was filled with face-painters, BBQs, and delicious baked goods. Kids were playing games and it reminded me of something out of Little House on the Praire.

But this was the day to be on the southern side of the boulevard, where some real fun was being had. I bought a Hector Lavoe salsa CD and ate some good old fashion empanadas (not cheap). There were some real characters at that one.

Take a look at the photos.
