McGurk Pleads Guilty over Sunnyside killing

Sunnyside murder cases are still pending

This week marks the first anniversary of the arrest of Gary McGurk, an Irish national from Woodside, who allegedly strangled and stabbed his one-time Sunnyside girlfriend to death on April 26, 2009. He faces a murder charge.

Crime Dropped in the past month

The crime figures reported by the 108th Police Precinct (which covers Sunnyside, Woodside and LIC) were released last week and crime for the 28-day period ending April 25 was down 10% compared to the same period in 2009.
The biggest reason for the decline was the large drop in grand larcenies, burglaries and grand larceny autos. Meanwhile, crimes such as robbery and felony assaults rose.

Woodside woman charged with murder

A Woodside woman who violently shook a baby boy to his death has been charged with murder, according to public records.

Local Crime spikes, follows NYC’s lead

New York’s major tabloid newspapers have been reporting that crime is up throughout the city. Unfortunately, Precinct 108, which covers Woodside, Sunnyside and Long Island City, is no different.

Malcontent arrested following school yard graffiti

 
The perpetrator of some ugly graffiti at Sunnyside’s PS 150 has been arrested, according to police.
Daniel Wattenbarger, a 58-year-old male who lives on 41st Street, was arrested on March 23 for painting a message full of expletives on a wall adjacent to PS 150 — for all the students to read. He had been complaining to teachers at the school that the 6-to-10 [...]
