Five people, including a young girl, were injured when a white sedan plowed into a Woodside bus stop and then fled the scene, according to NBC4.
Police said the car drove up onto the sidewalk and struck the victims at the bus stop at Northern Boulevard and 48th Street at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. All five victims were taken to Elmhurst Hospital. Authorities say three of the victims were seriously injured, two critically.
Officials say a 7-year-old girl who suffered cuts and bruises was among the victims.
Police were continuing to search Sunday for the driver of the white sedan.

@Dorothy…yes they do head south with a complete disregard to traffic lights..What is it going to take to stop their ” reckless” driving?…Does it have to be a pedestrian who gets hit?
Northern Blvd., like Queens Blvd., is not just a local street, it is a major regional artery. It has been since it’s inception. All day and night long cars from all over LI use it to get to the QB Bridge, avoiding tolls.
If planners had been concerned with pedestrian lives they never would have turned that area into a local and regional shopping destination. They drew foot, bus and car traffic to the area with the intention of making money, not with the intention of making our neighborhoods better places to live.
Smart planning puts in necessary infrastructure first, such as re-opening 37th Avenue between Woodside Avenue and 43rd St to ease traffic on Northern Blvd. and keep it off 39th Avenue. But what did they do? Permanently close it off to put in a storage building! People are piling up old stuff where a vital road should be.
I don’t believe them when they say safety is top priority. Money is. They will do something now that people are dying and being hurt. Slowing traffic down will help, but not as much as recreating an artery would have.
@Ari, the vehicle involved was a sedan. I agree with you about reckless tow truck drivers but in this case I believe that the trucks turn south in 47th St. to get to the tow pound in Maspeth.

This unfortunate situation was probably initiated by one of those tow truck flying out of national wholesale liquidators..The drivers race out of the parking lot with vehicles in tow never displaying flashing lights or tail lights on the cars…this is a very dangerous practice and must somehow be illegal.
That is a very dangerous intersection for pedestrians. What is needed there as well as at other intersections, such as at Northern and 61st St. where the 8-year-old boy was killed on his way to school, is a four-way stop. An extra minute or two with no vehicles turning would save lives.
Where’s the cameras that aren’t from 1960? Every light should have a camera with crystal clear digital zoom capabilities.
That street has always been dangerous. The timing on when the streetlights change are terrible and the people drive like crazy. Especially where this accident happened. There was news coverage before on how cars have no idea of where and when its okay to turn or have the go ahead to move.
At least there’s a camera on that street so hopefully it got a picture of the driver. The car has already been found and they can run the plates if they weren’t removed. That way they have the plate number as well as a picture to go on to find the driver and more evidence.

This type of things is becoming a common occurrence.
Are they handing out driver’s licenses in cereal boxes these days?
