Irish Central: Rory Staunton death to lead to new sepsis law
The tragic case of Rory Staunton, the 12-year-old Sunnyside, Queens boy who died of septic shock last April after being sent home from the emergency room at NYU Langone Medical Center, has resulted in the introduction by Governor Andrew Cuomo this week of powerful new emergency room measures that could save thousands of lives.
During his State of the State message this week, Cuomo is expected to announce that every hospital in New York must adopt new measures to identify sepsis in patients, including the introduction of a new countdown clock to begin treatment within an hour of spotting it, a state official told The New York Times.

Wow. What courage by Ciaran and Orlaith to see this legislation through. Sunnyside continues to mourn with you and your daughter.
No amount of laws will change the fact that doctors are human and will make mistakes and some of their patients will die.
With all the the lawsuits and second guessing, you’d have to be nuts to become a doctor in this country. Much easier and more profitable to be a politician or a lawyer. If only they were held as accountable for their mistakes.
