Does anyone know what happened Friday night on 43rd Avenue near 42nd Street? There were about a half dozen police cars and three ambulances. I heard yelling prior to the sirens. Went outside and there was a man on the ground the paramedics were working on. It was around 2am, so no other bystanders around to ask.
I find it amazing that we tolerate the noise and the danger that these machines, and their barely-able operators, bring to our community. Such selfish behavior on any other level would be a violation, but when your neighbor rumbles past your building on his modified Harley, where 400 people are sleeping because it’s 5 AM, that seems to be acceptable. The power of lobbyists.
Motorcycles seem cool and romantic but they are death machines. One error and you are kaput. Doesn’t even have to be your error, just some driver cutting you off or a pot hole in the street.
I am in favor of speed bumps on skillman ave and on other street to slow down traffice in certain areas of sunnyside…we need to take back our streets and speed bumps is the way to do it… not just for our schools but for the safety of our waking population of our town as well… plus our senior citizens that walk slow and have a hard time with fast moving cars
@Lucky Lu- I didn’t hear anything Friday night, but on Saturday there were three NYPD detectives in my building trying to find people whose apartments face 43rd Ave. They said there was a man assaulted outside the building. At the time, I assumed they meant someone was assaulted on Saturday, but it may have been the same Friday disturbance you were referring to.
@Newcomer – I would be one of the people with an apartment facing 43rd Avenue, but as I said I didn’t become alarmed until I heard numerous sirens and emergency vehicles stopping right in front of the building. I hear yelling often in the wee hours of the morning on my block after the pubs have closed and it being a Friday night, I did not think much of it.
@ Elizabeth the Thrwarter – I don’t think anything I did was either trying to help or meddling. Something bad happened right outside my building which prompted a major NYPD and FDNY response. I think my curiosity was more than warranted. If someone was assaulted right outside my front door, then I want to know about it and know if the attack was random or the victim targeted and the perpetrator caught. You seem to think I should ignore screams or emergency vehicles. I’m only sorry I didn’t look out the window when I first heard the screaming. I might have seen something that would have been helpful to the police investigation. Shame on you, Elizabeth. I hope your neighbors know what sort of unhelpful person you are.
you guys can say all you want about how motorcycles are loud and dangerous, but the only dangerous thing out on the road is reckless drivers. i’ll admit that i sometimes text and make calls but i consider myself a great driver and that’s why i do it. in my 10 years of driving i have not yet caused an accident or been involved in one.
the rider of this motorcycle is a friend of mine and he was at no fault. the cab driver and any other driver for that matter is supposed to only make a left turn when and if the intersection is clear. and because the cab driver did not make the right decision at this intersection, my friend Antonio is in the hospital with a broken pelvis, broken femur and broken left arm.

This is my bf.. Thank God he is okay and out of harm.
It wasn’t even his fault. The taxi cab hit him. He was on his way home to
Get ready for my birthday party. Yes motorcycle’s are dangerous and the noise is loud and annoying at certain hours of the night, but it’s still
A human being operating these vehicles, no one deserves to go through these extreme accidents.
But thanks for the support!
We need more speed bumps. Or make it we need speed bumps because southern side of blvd doesn’t have any.
There are speed bumps on 44 St between 48 and 50 Aves there on the south side of QB

If there were already a half dozen police cars and three ambulances on scene, why would you think they would need help (or meddling) from you?

The motorcycle problem would be easily resolved with a Motorcycle Run in Lodati Park. How about it Councilman?

Fingers crossed that it was the asshat that nearly ran me over crossing 47th ave last week after blowing a red light doing at least 60 mph…
He was on a Blue Bike.
One can only hope.
Good Riddance.

My dad saw the whole accident and called the ambulance in less than a minute.
Were you the girl sitting on the back of the fire truck?
Tom, tell your dad I said “thank you’ and God bless you.
