Daily News

A 52-year-old grandfather was killed Monday when he was hit by a school bus while loading his flat-bed truck in Queens.

Thackoo Hargobin, of Canarsie, Brooklyn, died at the scene on Borough Place in Woodside about 8:30 a.m., still clutching a cargo strap in his hand, cops and witnesses said.

He was knocked off the back of his truck when he was hit by a yellow school bus full of disabled children heading north on Borough Place, according to officials and witnesses.

“It’s a tragedy, a horrible accident,” said John Garuti, 60, owner of Super-Tex Products, where Hargobin was loading building materials.

“I think he was gone immediately.”

  1. What the hell is going on this week?!

  2. Something isn’t adding up here, maybe it’s just the reporting.

The front of the bus has no dents or marks or anything that I can see from the photo. The article says…

“He was knocked off the back of his truck when he was hit by a yellow school bus…”

So, the bus knocked him off the truck then hit him again? The sentence is a bit confusing.

And if the bus knocked him off the truck, it must have hit the truck. So why isn’t there any damage to the front of the bus?

Maybe I missed something. Either way, RIP and condolences to the family.

  3. Roger,

I assumed he was standing on the wheel or a step rail and was struck by the mirror and carried under the bus.

  4. @Backslash – you need to give more information if you are going to ask this question. What combination of events has brought this on?

  5. What a damn shame.

  6. @Smitty

I assumed posters here read this page daily. I was referring to the fights, child abandonment, and motor vehicle homicide.

  7. People barrel down the roads because it’s all about them. F everybody else.

  8. Reuben Sandwich: You got that right!!!! There is more safe driving going on in Midtown Manhattan than around here!! If there were cameras catching all the moving violations around Sunnyside, we would be able to build a new school on every corner!! Drivers are ‘put out’ by having to wait for a red light. If they don’t ‘inch up’ past the crosswalk, they go through the red light. I see it on a DAILY basis. This has gone on for YEARS!! Everyone feels so entitled behind the wheel! Grrrr!

  9. WHERES ALL THE COMMENTS?!?!?!?!?!
