Sunnyside/Woodside State Sen. aims to clamp down on guns
A New York State Senator plans to introduce six new pieces of gun control legislation this week, which if passed would make New York the state with the toughest gun laws in the nation. But gun control advocates caution that lax laws in other states would still pose a threat.
Senator Michael Gianaris, a Democrat from Queens, is proposing a series of restrictive measures that go above and beyond the state’s already relatively strong gun laws. Gianaris’s bills would:
- limit New Yorkers to purchasing only one gun per person per month
- mandate a 10-day waiting period for all gun purchases
- require background checks for all gun sales, even those between a private seller and buyer
- require dealers to report all firearm and ammunition sales within 24 hours to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, where records would be kept on file for at least a decade
- limit ammo sales to permitted dealers
- require gun buyers to take a safety course

This is complete crap. Second Amendment allows us to have firearms and our 100 magazine clips. VOTE REPUBLICAN, keep the guvmint out of our bizniss.
Enforcement does not work. Instead of stricter laws, there are other ways to end illegal guns. It costs 32000 -60000 to house an illegal gun user in jail. Why not reduce gun possession sentences to 2 instead of three years. Offer 30000 as reward leading to the arrest and conviction of an illegal gun owner. Loose your property and money if you are caught with an unregistered gun. Allow the electronic fingerprinting of all bullets sold.
There is no need for more laws. It just gums up real gun owners and the businesses that service em.
“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government” – Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
From my cold dead hands bitchezzzzz! Molon labe.
A carrying community is a polite community. When people follow the law they will, in time, become defenseless victims of crimes.
In the link provided it mentioned out of state guns were turning up in NYC. No $hit this would happen. When all these laws are put into place a black market forms. This is not a left of right thought process this is just human nature that always happens.
Solution: Since there is a black market caused by stupid laws that no one follows, simply get rid of the laws and record every purchase. Regardless of what it is; just record it all. Its not even a process were the purchaser needs to claim it. It’s automatically recorded when purchased. Government can never control people who are meant to be Free.
I’m sure all the gang-bangers, drug dealers, muggers and assorted thugs out there will be more than happy to comply with these new laws. Politicians really do live in the bizarro world.
More useless laws. Thankfully this won’t pass. Anyway this would be unconstitutional, you can’t limit the amount of guns a person can but in a given time period.
All the laws in the world won’t stop the growing immorality in society. As a country we’ve legally slaughtered 50+ million unborn babies, so why is it such a mystery that human life is considered so cheap and disposable?
@86mets without abortion there would be more potential criminals and riffraff runningaround. And who will pay for these extra kids?
@Oshea
Who are you to say who the aborted would have become? By your reasoning, some would also become doctors, writers, playwrights and simply decent, average, hard working people as well. The fact of the matter is that abortion is a death sentence for the innocent and you appointed yourself as judge.
@O’shea: Yea… The option of adoption (all rights reserved).
O’shea,
Please define “riffraff”. Also, please explain why, in your opinion, killing “riffraff” would be preferable to having them “runingaround”.
86Mets,
Bravo!
I have a better idea: how about arresting some criminals? That might put a dent in the criminal enterprise business! As for the “riff raff” statement, that shows the mindset of the people who support abortion. They assume that poor people don’t love their children and that their kids will turn into criminals. Of course, the children of the “privileged” never turn out badly! I am thinking of the Kennedy kids of course. Don’t let them near your car! By the way: you have to be born to have a life and to make decisions about your future. When you are aborted, that option is gone.
Gianaris is another showboating politician. Onorato was much better.
He’s trying to steal Chuck Schumer’s thunder.
@ John k
I’ll define “riff raff ” when you answer my question of who pays for the extra kids. We cannot even take care of the one’s here and we are discussing aborted fetuses. Really ?
You’ve made an enormous leap into sinister territory (deciding who lives or dies based upon your own eccentric idea of who is worthy–or not). Who are you to make such decisions? Who is anyone, short of God, to make such decisions?
I concede that it is a woman’s right to have ultimate control over her own body; but, if she chooses to abort any child, for any reason (which I believe should be her right), I wouldn’t want her karma.
As for “who pays”,…are you the Arbiter of All Things Economic? How do you know how things will fall out? You may mean well, despite your ravings; but, a raver you are.
Be still. Think more.
You’ll be better for it.
@ 86 get off your morality horse for a second. Women are the greatest evil because they abort fetuses they know full well they can’t take care of as human beings in the near future. Clearly women are incapable of any rational thought so we should let the state make her decisions for her.
All abortion decisions are not made in a vacuum. Welfare family caps– a conservative measure- contribute to abortions also. Abortion has helped in greatly reducing the crime rate.
@John
Hmm …so a rape, incest or woman from a very abusive relationship portends some sort of negative “karma”. Sorry but this raver understands how new york treats a single mother with multiple sons.
And i sincerely apologized for not understanding your concept of “god”
Can someone please tell me why the most dangerous cities in the US are all governed by liberals.
Criminals dream of a world where law abiding citizens have no means of protecting themselves. Prohibition didn’t work with alcohol and it sure as hell won’t do anything to curb gun violence.
Oh… about the abortion thing. As much as I disagree with abortion, any woman who isn’t bright enough to figure out how to put a piece of latex (provided for free by the city thanks to NYC taxpayers) on a penis before inserting it into her vagina probably shouldn’t be reproducing.
If someone kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach and she lost the child, what should they be charged with? Murder? Is a baby only a human being if the mom intends to keep it?
O’shea,
Look back in your own family history. Are you descended from anybody born into poverty, single motherhood or any other less than ideal circumstances?
In the last four years did you vote for anybody who wasn’t born into the ideal family situation?
86mets,
Family history convinces me strongly that way too many kids (9) is not ideal. It is dysfunctional and becoming bad in that situation could have been very easy.
There is a reason why certain communities experience more stop and Frisks. There is a reason why more illegal guns and shootings occur in these neighborhoods. There is also a reason why these communities send more of their young men to jail instead of college classes.
Poverty and single parenthood.
I think we all should buy a gun now. While we can
Senator Gianaris talks of using California Law for a model. I lived in California for 18 years before coming back and complied with their gun laws. A few (very few) aspects of it are sensible, to be true. However, California requires NO license for handgun possession in one’s home or business nor is one required to transport handguns (for lawful purposes) in a locked container. California also has State Pre-emption law. NYS should first repeal the Sullivan Act, together with PL Sections 265 and 400 and pass State Pre-emption (translation: NYC Gun Law and Title 38 are overridden) before overhauling Gun Control to emulate California and score more points with the Brady Campaign. CA gun laws may be easily verified on the CA Attorney General website (Firearms Division). This is a very well constructed site.
It is the law abiding who will not be able to defend themselves. Put a sign near your house that states “Gun Free Zone” and watch how often you will be robbed. As for abortion, it is not an answer for a social problem and it is being used routinely as birth control in some neighborhoods. It is an abhorrent practice. Who speaks for the dead babies? You have to be born to have a life. My late father was born into great poverty but when on to have a decent life.
Incidentally, much of the disfunction in the “inner city” is because the fathers have taken off and don’t care about their kids.
I would like to know why gang membership is not automatically prosecuted under the RICO statute. I seem to recall many years ago, that some gang members were put away under RICO. If you belong to a gang – and they traffic in arms and drugs and murder – you should automatically be arrested.
In New York State, the police have no duty to provide police protection to any particular individual. The Courts in New York have held that “generally, a municipality may not be held liable for the failure to provide police protection because the duty to provide such protection is owed to the public at large, rather than to any particular individual” (Conde v. City of New York, 24 AD3d 595, 596 [2005]; see Cuffy v. City of New York, 69 NY2d 255, 260 [1987]).
As the Chair of the Public Safety Committee of Manhattan Community Board 12. I will be holding a Public Hearing in September 2012 on NYS Senate Bill S1427 & S1863 with an emphasis on self-defense education & firearm training for women.
Bill S1427 PURPOSE: This proposed constitutional amendment would provide within the New York State Constitution for a right of the people to keep and bear arms for traditionally recognized purposes
Bill S1863 PURPOSE: This legislation would remove a gun licensing officer’s ability to deny or restrict the issuance of licenses to law abiding citizens who have successfully undergone the state’s strict application process and appropriate New York State and Federal Bureau of Investigations fingerprint background check required under law. In addition, this bill will conform New York State law to current ATF requirements regarding background checks for firearms transfers.

If you live in New York State feel free to take a look at the information that I will be presenting as well as sign my on-line petition included at the link below. I hope that you will come out and support me as I support you. Fraternally.
