Sunnyside scaffolding failure leads to contractor being hit with violations
The scaffolding that malfunctioned on Monday in Sunnyside leaving a worker dangling for dear life was not sanctioned, the Daily News has learned.
The incident underscores a dark underbelly within the construction trade, a Queens lawmaker said Thursday.
The city Department of Buildings issued a partial stop-work order at the 45th St. construction site and is investigating what caused the scaffolding to collapse, officials said.
Elmhurst contractor Prestige Construction, which was doing facade work on the six-story apartment building, was hit with two violations for Monday’s incident.

You could tell these guys were cut rate from the start.
Many times they also dropped bricks that would smash
On our fire escapes. The only thing they seemed to do well
was making the women of the building feel
harrased and filling our AC units with gravel
and dust.
These people should be arrested. This is disgusting.
If you look all around Sunnyside, half IF not more of the buildings that have scaffolding up are unlicensed, non-professional fly-by-night operations – they only stop when the building owners are fined or they are caught without proper paperwork – it happened to my building. The owners gamble & take a chance they won’t get caught
If the owners are the same people who own my building (directly behind that one) they are scumbags.
I passed by the site and saw a whole bunch of permits hanging. The guys who manage that building are good & I am sure there is more to the story than what some 3rd string writer from the News writes.
