Health Department reports on Dazies, Skillman’s Famous are out

The New York City Health Department has released its reports that led to the closing of two of Sunnyside’s better-known restaurants — namely Dazies and Skillman’s Famous Pizza & Coffee Shop.

The reports, which are available by clicking on each restaurant’s name on this page, are very different. Dazies’ violations appear to be quite minor, dealing with the temporature that some of the food was being kept at.

But the Health Dept. was particularly tough on Skillman’s Famous Pizza & Coffee Shop. It raised questions as to the general cleanliness of the establishment.

It is worth noting that it is rare for a restaurant to be closed by the health department. Those few restaurants that fail to pass (a score of 28 or more) are typically given time to rectify the matter. Please click on the following link petaining to Sunnyside restaurants.

  1. I think storing fish at an improperly high temperature is a little more then minor…

  2. So, you’re saying that restaurants are: warned, given time (typically how long, please) to fix the problems — minor or otherwise — and only at that point are they closed by the Health Department?
And you’re saying that that’s what happened with our two local and heavily patronized eateries? Please confirm. Thanks so much, Christian.

  3. In most cases, the Health Department will allow a restaurant owner to rectify its flaws at the time of inspection. The Health Dept. does not arbitrarily close it.

The restaurant is, however, shut down if the restaurant is unable to take care of the problem at the time.

  4. If you look at the last two scores for the past two years, they kept the place very clean in fact they scored an 18 last year.

Bloomberg’s Bullies have been all over the neighborhood, inspecting, ticketing and harassing local businesses of all types.

Its all about THE CASH that Bloomie wants to squeeze out of the working and middle class.
